Are you saying NARA has recently uploaded the Combat Action Reports? Or are you just saying you can request copies through their website?

Ben Schwartz

If you have a relative that was in combat in the military, those Combat Action Reports are actual reports. You can get can get the action reports for the unit your relative was in. They are online at the National Archives website. If you do not know what unit your relative's records will tell you. If your relative is still living, only they can request them. If they are deceased you can request them if you are immediate family. Ask for their discharge form (known as DD214 at least when I was in), may have been a different form in WWII. Also, while you are making the request, ask for their personnel records, also known as the 201 military personal file. Those records are part of the VA system. You should be able to request to get them via snail mail on the VA website.

Jimmy Fallon is a direct descendant of the character he plays. The man was a selfless hero who ran ammo and supplies through constant danger.

The next two Eps, Bastogne and The Breaking Point hit you with a massive gut punch, as does episode 9, but in a completely different way. Loving y’all’s reactions to BoB- hope y’all will react to The Pacific, starring (among others), Jon Seda, and Joe Mazello and Rami Malek, who played bassist John Deacon and Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody.

Original Cyn

Your reactions and comments are great. This is such an important piece of history.

Pink Martini AZ

Yes I loved that one as well. I was thinking the other day that Asia and BJ would like that one too.

Pink Martini AZ

He told them to wait for the red smoke so that they would be far enough behind for him to tell them to retreat if necessary.

Brittany Holcomb

Bastogne is next and it’s a tuff watch. It’s the Battle of the Bulge a major turning point in the war. A&B y’all are doing a great job.✌🏼

Dan63

I love how you guys are understanding the missions and little details. Such good reactors. Very enjoyable. Crossroads is part of Battle of the Bulge. Very dangerous part of the war. Could go either way.

Lift Me (Dave)

The next episode is my favorite. Its going to to hit you hard.

Even more difficulties, the rail and road lines had not been rebuilt yet after being destroyed in the Dday invasion to hamper German reinforcements from throwing the allies back into the sea. Things could not be rebuilt fast enough because it is difficult to rebuild while simultaneously attacking. When operation market garden was going on , General Patton had to stand still in central France while all the supplies went to Holland. There was not enough fuel to power Pattons tanks and enough ammunition, food etc to keep all the fronts going.

I'm so happy you guys are watching this series. Its some eye opening and heart wrenching episodes but you feel for everyone. Thanks for this.

Wendy

What also made this battle of the bulge so terrible was Hitler's most feared tanks, the Tiger and the Panthers series, attacked in huge numbers and there was nothing to stop them. The antitank weapons the allies had would not penetrate the armor, failing to ignite and harmlessly bouncing off the tanks. It would take a direct artillery hit or an airplane bomb to stop the Tiger. That is why at the end of the show, all the other units were retreating. The only saving grace was that the Tiger tank broke down a lot, because the transmission was not strong enough for the heavy tank.

“You’re gonna be surrounded.” “We’re paratroopers, lieutenant. We’re supposed to be surrounded.” 🫡

The German attack in the Ardennes Forest was Hitler’s last gasp attempt to turn the war around by pushing the Allies back to France, and into the sea. He was to throw everything he had against them, and the 101st Airborne was sent to dig in and stop the German advance.

Catherine LW

My favorite show ever. I remember watching it when it first came out in 2001 with my parents. At the time I was a big wrestling fan and both shows were on at the same time on the 9 o'clock hour, and choosing between the Attitude Era and BOB was the hardest decision ever. Fucking love this show. The characters you'll never forget them. I always loved Guarnere especially.

Bill William

they are about to head into the battle of the bulge. Hitlers massive counterattack in order to split the allied line so they can be destroyed piecemeal. This was the biggest battle the allies endured and went from december 16, 1944 to january 1945. 600,000 allied soldiers took part. Dark times indeed. Every year of the war was terrible, but the closer the allies got to Germany the tougher it got. The German supply line was relatively close to their army, but the allied supply lines were stretched and supplies had to come all the way from Normandy which at this time was several hundred miles away.

HBO also made a series called The Pacific about the war against Japan. Steven Spielberg was executive producer on both series.

Mr Jackpots

It is Jimmy for sure.

Mindbomb

50:50 Was that lieutenant played by Jimmy Fallon?? Or did my eyes deceive me?

Mickey D

He’s also in ransom and saw 2 and 3

brooke atkins

I don’t know if y’all noticed or if someone pointed it out but Soldier Carwood Lipton is played by Donnie Wahlberg from New Kids on the Block and Mark Wahlberg’s older brother

Jeff

I just refreshed and now Band of Brothers part 5! Thank you!
