I've received the 'OPEN' variant of the TK11. The Quansheng sales representative is very friendly and professional. Even though they didn't have to, they paid the customs fee that was added during shipment.
So far, I've noticed that the device has an 'OPEN' imprint on the back of the enclosure. After a brief inspection, it looks like the firmware bugs I encountered in earlier versions (e.g., issues with step size, etc.) are gone, which is certainly a step in the right direction.
As far as I understand, the 'OPEN' variant is supposed to differ from previous versions in that it features an unencrypted CPU, which should support third-party firmware. I attempted to open the device to check if the CPU is a different model, but I was unable to remove the volume knob. Despite heating it and applying force, the knob wouldn’t come off, unlike in many TK11 teardown videos. It seems that the volume knob might have been glued in the units I've received.
I followed up with the Quansheng sales representative regarding some questions about the electrical schematics, hardware differences, etc. I’ll keep you posted once I know more!
