Great movie! The very long scene at the beginning of the film when Henry and Karen are on their first date together, and are walking through the kitchen of the restaurant on their way to the main room and finally arrive at their table is famous for also being one of the longest continuous shots ever filmed without any cut or interruption, and had never been done before. Martin Scorcese was the director of this film. I think you'll also like THE DEPARTED, another Scorcese film, also about criminal life, but with the bad guys in Boston as the focus of the film.

Could you guys PLEASE add Cop Land to one of your polls. It’s a great movie that has Robert Deniro, Ray Liotta, Sylvester Stallone, Rober Patrick (the terminator from Terminator 2) and a bunch of other actors you’ll know by sight. Another good one is A Bronx Tale. It’s more of a coming of age story with the mob as a backdrop. Also has Robert Deniro and Chaz’s Palminteri.

One of my favorites as well. I grew up poor and seeing the lifestyle he had as a kid into his early 20s was stunning. But just like you talked about, the crash came and as Asia said they really were BadFellas. The real Henry Hill used to call into the Howard Stern show often back in the day. I can tell you that Ray Liotta nailed his voice, laughter and how he talks perfectly. For another take on a Gangster Movie that I felt was just a great as this one but completely told in a different way give Miller's Crossing a try. It is done by the Coen brothers that have made some of the best character driven movies I have seen. Once you start down their library you won't stop. Miller's crossing was set during 1929 gangster times and oddly enough came out the same year as GoodFellas, 1990. Both are up there as favorite movies and top 5 of best gangster movies for me.

Now you guys should check out some of Martin Scorsese other films Raging Bull,Casino(mob movie),Taxi Driver,The Departed (mob movie),The Irishman(mob movie), Wolf of Wall Street...Scorsese has directed some of the best films of the last 40 years he's also worked with the best Pacino,DeNiro,Leo Caprio,Jack Nicholson the list goes on.

Martin Scorsese was the Director of this. He's one of the best in Hollywood and is famous for Mob movies. Two others of his you'll want to see is, "Casino" and "The Departed." The Departed is a favorite of mine, but they're both great.

Jimmy yes, but Henry was younger. Jimmy was already in his 20s when the movie started. Henry would have been like 20 years than Junior.

If you liked Goodfellas, you should do Casino. Same director, Martin Scorsese. Starring Robert De Niro, Joe Pesci and Sharon Stone. Casino is about the mob in Las Vegas in the 1980s. Equally, if not better than Goodfellas.

Oh, and since my stoner brain will keep thinking of things: By all accounts, Joe Pesci's character Tommy was actually toned down in the movie compared to how the guy was in real life. As terrifyingly unhinged as Pesci was in this movie, the real guy was somehow worse haha. And the whole multiple girlfriend thing with Henry was beyond legit, the prosecutor in his case actually mentioned that he showed up with like 2 or 3 girlfriends to also get into witness protection. And of all the different Goodfellas/Sopranos actors you'll notice, an easy one to miss: Big Pussy in The Soporanos is actually a background actor in Goodfellas, he's pushing the rack with fur coats with Henry.

There are so many cast members from Goodfellas that ended up in the Sopranos if you pay close attention. They're all support cast but there are at least 6 or 7 of them.

BJ just use words that end in "er" and pronounce it like an "a", that is a good start coming straight from a NY italian lol

Been refreshing the past few days waiting for this... fuck yes!!! Okay so a couple cool things: The prosecutor who says 'Don't give me the babe in the woods routine, Karen' is the ACTUAL prosecutor who handled this case IRL. Not an actor. Also, Joe Pesci's mom in the movie, the nice old lady who makes them dinner in the middle of the night, is actually the directors mother, he found a way to put her into a lot of his movies. And then you know the scene where they kill the wig guy in the car? And he was talking about how they were betting on college basketball games right before they killed him? Well, theres a great ESPN 30 for 30 documentary called 'Playing For The Mob' that goes into that actual scandal, where Henry Hill and all those guys were maybe rigging Boston College basketball games. It's narrated by Ray Liotta, the star of this movie, and the actual Henry Hill is also in it.

Now you've seen the actor Ray Liotta, you need to watch a baseball movie he's in that I'm very fond of because of the subject matter it's called Field of Dreams and it concerns the 8 members of the Chicago White Sox (a team I cheer for) that got banned from playing the game after the 1919 World Series Liotta plays Shoeless Joe Jackson, one of the greatest players of his generation I highly recommend it in fact, it's MORE than just a baseball movie MUCH more
