Band of Brothers E1

Band of Brothers E1

Comments

Gotta watch this every year. Fitting day.

Rich

The NCO Corps was established in 1775 - the same time the army was founded. We're commonly referred to as the "backbone of the army" and our job is to execute the commander's intent. If the commander is overstepping he's making his NCOs ineffective. That group that was trying to turn in there stripes- all NCOs requesting to have their NCO status stripped from them. That's actually quite a protest. Also, where the hell was top. Dude shows up for all of 5 seconds to relay a message then disappears? What is he doing?

Kaleipakalani Cruz

I think the officers are in charge like that due to the fact that it's a brand new unit and they are going to be staying together through the war... Maybe?!?!

Logan Nelson

A lot of things went over your head lol. In the military you have enlisted and officers. Enlisted show up to the recruiter's office and get sent to basic training. Officers typically go through college and get assigned as leaders. Sometimes they let their rank go to their heads even though they don't have any experience in the field. That's where most of the frustration you are seeing is coming from. LT getting lost is a very common trope and one that's commonly joked about. In the training scene, they showed a class on declination. Fun fact, compasses don't really point north. They point to a giant metal deposit buried in Canada. Because we're south of Canada it's north for us but depending on where you are in the world, it's a little off. Declination is how much of a difference from the deposit to the north pole. Magnetic north to grid north. (If you look at a map the longitude lines run from the north pole.) True north is following the north star. The diamond rank is first sergeant. He's kind of the right-hand man to the commander and the highest-ranking enlisted in a company. The beginning scene when LT (at the time) was critiquing the platoon kind of threw me off. Maybe it's a different time different world but you normally don't see officers harping on enlisted - not their lane. If an officer has a problem with an enlisted they will typically pass it off to their NCO. In this case, you have a commander who is very micromanaging and an apparently absent first sergeant seeing as we literally only see him in one scene. The scene when the NCOs walked out and the reassignment is very real. We have a saying, "They don't think their shit smells." Sometimes, you have to let them know which is basically what they did when they turned in their stripes. If a soldier is a problem sometimes the best thing is to put them out to pasture.

Very briefly.

Mr Jackpots

This is one of my favorite series...Band of Brothers. I try to watch it around Memorial Day, when I can. Now I get to watch with you.

Terrie Calabrese

When I saw David Schwimmer in the opening credits I was dubious, but then pleasantly surprised at this performance. I'm wondering if his character will resurface later in the series.

Mickey D

I keep meaning to watch this show as one of my favorite actors, Andrew Scott, was in this show in his very early acting days. Might as well start it with you guys 😊

Alicia

Hey Ed! We are really enjoying the series, we hope you will too!

Asia and BJ

I never got around to watching this, so now I will be for the first time with you, A & B!

Ed Pawley

So glad you two are watching this. The old men speaking at the beginning of the show are the real men the actors are portraying. Be great to see if you guys can guess which is which lol Also, theses guys were the beginning wave of D-Day. Their mission is to jump behind enemy lines and attack the Nazi's so the troops that are storming the beach would not have so strong of an enemy force to fight.(which Saving Private Ryan protrayed. If you remember from that movie, is that most of the troops that landed on beaches from the Navy boats landed on beaches that were not assigned to them. It was complete and utter chaos)

Kevin

This is one of my favorite mini series to watch. Thank you for doing this. I won’t spoil anything but you should be aware that episodes 7 and 9 are the toughest to watch.

Nicholas Stansell

Both of my Grandpa's served in WW2. My Dad and Uncle were in Vietnam. My Brother was in the Navy, I was in the USMC reserves. My nephew is now in the Navy. So yep. Military family here too.

jason

We are going to try to do it every other day. As long as everything works out right.

Asia and BJ

How often are you posting these episodes?

Dylan Miller

Super excited for Episode 2!!

Jonny Kerr (JK)

After finishing, Band of Brothers, you guys should react to the show, The Pacific. It's the follow up to Band of Brothers. Same war but it focuses on a different military campaign that took place in Asia. The Pacific focuses on the US Marines battling against the Japanese during WWII

Wayne Polk

Fantastic show that doesn't hold your hand. I'd almost suggest you watch and film the whole series in one shot so you remember the names of people and events.

Morgan Nicolas

New Subscriber. You hit the nail on the head BJ. It's about to get real. An you are right. So thankful you guys are reacting to this series. Spielberg and Hanks did an amazing job. It's my all time favorite show. An it gets better as it goes. Good job.

Michael Yoder

Original Cyn

One of the best mini-series of all time. Should be required viewing in high school history class.

Jerry

So excited to see this. I watch Band of Brothers all the way through every time I get sick. Also, I'm in Texas, too. Up in Oak Point near Frisco. Hope y'all are well.

Joel McDaniel

Lieutenant Winters. He’s an officer.

Catherine LW

Well done reaction. These soldiers are portraying the actual men. Not fiction. Truly the greatest generation. Easy company is E company. A alpha B bravo C charlie D dog as in ww2 (D delta when i served)_E easy F foxtrot and so on

Lift Me (Dave)

BJ you nailed it at the end when the men were scared as hell and knowing it was finally time to face the heat. Sergeant Winters gives his platoon a somber blessing, then helps each man to his feet while looking them in the eye. What a harrowing moment. That’s how you build a band of brothers.

Old Drill Sgt.

My father landed by boat on Utah Beach day 70.

Cynthia M Farrington

Wait…. You are doing Game of Thrones, the Soppranos AND Band of Brothers?? Damn… you are tackling the three big dogs all at once. I love it! Heh heh heh. Oh yeah that actress playing the mother is too good. That mother is a piece of work.

Pink Martini AZ

I’ve never seen this, so it’s new to me too.

Cynthia M Farrington

I have seen this series several times over the years. It is awesome as many of your comments will attest to. The characters are great, the storylines are good and it is a reasonably accurate depiction of events faced by the real men of easy company as portrayed by some talented actors. I love your reaction to it.... but I must ask, did you serve in the military at all Asia... a few things you have said from time to time has led me to wonder if you have.

Leslie McEwan

The older men talking at the beginning of the episode were the real paratroopers from EZ company

Tara

Captain had to be replaced. Poor decision making and no instincts to improvise would have been disastrous in this mission. Real stuff and real men. Thank god for every one of them.

Dan63

My Granddad fought in WW2 (He's passed now) My grandmother (Also passed now) was a WREN. My granddad was a hero, I know that, he had many medals, but he would never talk about his time in the war, he wore his medals and even uniform every time he would take us to the foreign legion pub/bar where he'd see other WW2 heroes and introduce us to them. All soldiers risk their lives for their country, its a dark history at times, but a very important one. May any who died then or since RIP - without them we probably wouldn't be here now like we are today. Really looking forward to your reactions on this!

SilverDoe🎔

Please put Justified TV show on your watch list! Great character, great writing!

Tracy Smith

The boys from EZ company will be parachuting behind the beaches that Captain Miller from Saving Private Ryan landed on, to encircle the Germans. Remember from Saving Private Ryan, Private Ryan was airborne and the big deal was finding him inland after they took the beach because they didn't know exactly where he was dropped. The details of this series are correct, even the fog causing D-Day to be delayed which caused a lot of anxiety...the waiting you said you felt it, they did a good job of portraying that and they were worried the Germans would discover the D-Day plans and be ready, surprise was a huge element of the plan. The foggy weather on the English channel and southern England is pretty famous. Loved this reaction can't wait for the rest, it gets serious from here on out.

CALIXYUKON
