i just joined! i cant wait to watch along the sopranos!

MrColiseum

I'm super super late to the party on this one, but I have never seen the Sopranos before, so I'm stoked to be watching it with you guys. Also, since this is my first episode, and you guys have finished the series, I'm quite sure it has been recommended that you guys take a look at the movie Analyze This. It takes the whole mob boss in therapy thing to a different level and it's super funny as well.

Dan Gonya

time to watch this whole series with you guys, its one of the best 😁👍👌 glad I subbed 👏

Chase Leviner

I'm so excited to watch this series with you. I've never used Patreon before and wanted to tell you because that's how much I Love 💕 watching your reactions! It took a minute for this GenX to get up and running lol. So glad you started this series. And...your sopranos teaser worked! 💕 from Kansas 🌻

Junsui

This will be my fourth time rewatching this show. Just joined yalls Patreon for this. Let's goooo

Dakota Ellis

Sorry the video can't play here for privacy settings error? Anyone else?

Rob

Yeah they need to know that the actor that is playing him is actually Bruce Springsteen's guitar player little Steven.

Michelle C

The actor playing Paulie was a real gangster in real life.

Nullifidian

That, and the way Italian-Americans drop the endings of words like prosciutto and mozzarella making them “prosciutte” and “mozzarelle.”

Alicia

I keep forgetting that. I feel like Seinfeld and Friends were the first of the network “water-cooler” shows, the ones everyone watched and would be talking about around the water cooler at work the next day. The Sopranos was definitely the first of many that took that concept to a whole other level. I think a little bit of the genius of the show might be lost on people who’ve only known TV the way it is now. But it’s still undoubtedly an excellent show.

Alicia

Omg yes yes yes!!!! I’m so excited y’all reacting to GOT and now Sopranos??!!! Wow what a treat. Asia. Tony can’t let it get out that he’s seeing a therapist, having anxiety attacks and taking depression meds cuz it’s a sign of weakness and he can’t talk to ANYONE about the biz or he’s considered a rat. Either will get him killed.

Jill Renaud

Thank you!

Asia and BJ

You guys cracking up at the one liner funny comments is worth price of admission. :) Another top notch reaction

Lift Me (Dave)

Hang on yall; this e ticket ride has just begun🤣🤣😉

Deborah Lewis

Glad to see new reactors to this show, I’m all in for the watch👊

Kleenn6160

Plus Nas made a song out of the intro chorus

Mirko Ferreira

I always wonder what great work he’d be doing now. Gone far too soon. 💔

Julie A

Thanks for joining in with us!

Asia and BJ

This one is the OG as far as cable tv series as we know them today. Sopranos is so well-made. I think you guys are going to love it. Pauly Walnuts is my favorite character, he cracks me up every time he opens his mouth.

The Sopranos ushered in the Golden Age of Television (according to many TV critics, and I absolutely agree with them).

Liz McCarthy-Edwards

I love the detail in the first episode how Tony takes his side piece to that restaurant, then when he comes with his wife the waiter says “where have you been we haven’t seen you in months” lol

Drake Medrano

I joined the series a couple seasons in. Looking forward to filling in the gaps with you guys.

Wallace Maass

Oh no, you skipped the intro! One of the best intros ever lol. The Sopranos changed the history of television. It's just as important and influential as shows like I Love Lucy, MASH, Cheers, etc. The Sopranos helped (almost) kill the sitcom format. Prior to the Sopranos, you could only see such extreme violence, sex, and other content on PPV. It blew everyone's mind at the time and opened the door for future TV shows like Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones, etc. Those shows wouldn't exist without the Sopranos breaking that barrier and showing studio execs that an episodic mature TV series could be successful. HBO really made a gamble, and it paid off in a big way. Its massive success also helped HBO fund future TV shows of a similar nature. You should also know that the actress who plays Dr. Melfie in the Sopranos is also a major character in Goodfellas - one of the films you're considering next and one I highly recommend. This casting choice in the Sopranos was quite a shocker at the time. The fans of the Sopranos who enjoy mafia films loved it because they were very familiar with her from Goodfellas and loved her as an actress for her role in Goodfellas. For fans of these kinds of films, it felt like the producers of The Sopranos really "got us" in their casting choice, if that makes sense. It showed tremendous self-awareness of what they were trying to do with the Sopranos, and it was a nod of respect to previous mafia films like Goodfellas.

Christopher Carver

R I P James Gandolfini 😔

Michelle C

She was fantastic.

Julie A

BJ, you're right, Tony's mother is a master of guilt trips and manipulation. Great portrayal of that part. I look forward to making my second pass through this series with you guys!

Mickey D

♥ The season's first episode has Tony heading down the driveway to get the newspaper. :-)

Jennifer James (wtfwebgoddess)

I need to go back and watch True Romance. I didn’t know who he was at the time.

Julie A

SOPRANOS is the best written & most realistic TV show ever written. It will feel like Reality TV

Dan Sopranos

Next to Breaking Bad, ( neck and neck) The Sopranos is the greatest show in TV history.

The Big Albowski

As I've said previous I've not watched this so? I'm excited. Time to delve in!

SilverDoe🎔

This is NOT A SPOILER and I hope no one reveals any. That would suck. You’re going to hear this word A LOT and you already heard it in one of the 1st two episodes. It’s “gabagool”. Gabagool is an Italian-American slang word originating in Southern Italy. It’s derived from “capicola,” which means ham and salami combo sandwich. I never knew what it meant and eventually Googled it. 😂

Julie A

You all may want to sneak in watching The Godfather. Goat movie right up there with Shawshank Redemption. Godfather is referenced throughout the series...and every other gangster movie

Mirko Ferreira

Can't wait for every episode on this. My favorite show of all time. James Gandolfini was flawless in this series, He's also amazing in True Romance written by Quentin Tarantino and directed by Tony Scott. Who directed Man On Fire. His scene with Patricia Arquette is one of the best things in cinema.

Jay Reeves

To all of ya’ll watching for the first time. If you loved Breaking Bad you will love The Sopranos. Much of the same idea where the main character is the bad guy White/Soprano but you see the story from their point of view so you end up rooting for them 80-90% of the time because of that as well as the great writing and acting. The end of the series is controversial and that’s about all I can say about that without giving too much away!

Todd Warring

My dad lived up the road a bit until he passed a few years ago. Right on the other side of the bay across from the Sea Bright public beach. He was from Hudson county but moved down the shore later in life. I love that area.

Honestly this has to be the greatest tv show if all time. When it came out it changed the game forever! This is what allowed shows like breaking bad, the wire, boardwalk empire, all the other great gangster and violent tv shows exist!

Smoothjazzsundays

It gets better and better. You’ll be hooked soon and more characters are coming. ✌🏼

Dan63

The days before burner phones.

Cynthia M Farrington

Happy to have you with us!

Asia and BJ

That mother of his is a real piece of work.

Cynthia M Farrington

No sorry, we can't, if we do the video screen is too small and people have a hard time seeing.

Asia and BJ

You have to watch the intro at least once; it really sets the tone Forget it, you did it 😀

Jacqueline Separovich

Oh man, this is going to be great!!! As a previous commenter said, SO MUCH of the little touches, whether it be speech, look, attitude, are dead on accurate for the area at the time. I live just a 10 minute local drive from their "Shore House" (you'll get there, lol) 💗 for about 25 years and before that I grew up in Brooklyn and the Bronx; I know these kinds of people, lol. The opening credits give me chills; mostly everyone from the eastern side of NJ and NYC knows all the things you see in it. You are going to see some very flawed people; but again, they are so very real. So glad you are reacting to the Sopranos! P.S: My one sister says I make Carmella faces; not sure if that's a compliment or not,

Jacqueline Separovich

ooo la la. GREAT series! Another great mob series is "Peaky Blinders" Mobsters in Englnad circa 1919

jason

That strip club that they filmed in has been around forever. I visited on occasion lol. I used to be friends with the old owners daughter. He used to let her dance once in a while. He lost it bc he kept getting popped for having mob ties. The thing with this show is, besides being great tv, they nailed the little details of ppl from northern NJ. Aside from the mob stuff,, especially if you’re from an Italian family. It was like you knew a dozen ppl that were just like these characters. And they filmed all over north Jersey, so you knew right where they were a lot of times. I used to work with a lady that rented her house to them, and then they payed for her to remodel it. It’s a great show, enjoy.

Thing about Tony Soprano is he never had the makings of a varsity athlete.

Davey

The reason it's such a stigma for a mobster to go to a therapist.... is because of the conversations that ensue during sessions...... And then the therapists will potentially discover things mob-related. Then the one seeing the therapist can be killed for divulging secrets.

Tom Occhipinti

Saw this show years ago when it first came out + loved it. I can't wait to watch it again with you! 🥰

DogGroomer17

So I have just decided to watch this at work on a extended lunch lol

Elizabeth DeMerie

There’s gonna be a lot of racist moments but it’s accurate to how a lot of mobsters were

AK Jay

I just watched the first 2 episodes with you guys. Great job!!

Julie A

I've never seen it before and I'm happy to be watching with y'all.

Rita Bickford

I still wish you were watching Lost. But the Sopranos is also great.

Tom Occhipinti

Hi Asia and BJ, is it possible to put the picture in between you both rather than up in the corner?

Tara

Me neither. Here we go .

Joel yates

So pumped! I watched every episode and recorded them one VHS when it came out lol. The pilot episode and the 1st season are great. But they're also coming into their own. Honing accents, developing characters, etc. This show becomes more of a masterpiece every episode. Great choice. Don't sleep on The Wire either. Equally amazing.

Jonny Kerr (JK)

WOOT!

CALIXYUKON

Right!?!

Tara

Ok let's go! 😀 "Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in!"

Alanna

I've never watched the show. So here...we...go! That should be fun. I can actually speculate about what will happen without spoiling anything. Ah, the magic of the first watch...

Jojo

😂

Alanna

I haven’t seen the Sopranos, so I’ll be watching it along with you both.

Tara

He never had the makings of a varsity athlete. (I just had to say that).
