Lord of the Rings The Fellowship of the Ring

Lord of the Rings The Fellowship of the Ring

Comments

Super late on watching this one but if y'all enjoyed this, maybe you should do the Hobbit trilogy.

Psiguy614_05

OMG!! Who taps the 'like' button and doesn't comment?! ME, apparently haha. Anyways, I watched the theatrical version of The Lord of the Rings trilogy the first time around. It was great, but not like the second time around when I watched the extended version. You just go through this whole journey and its fun and keeps you engaged for almost 4 hours. Glad watched this full version movie reaction. It was a lot of fun to watch with y'all. Hope you and the kiddos are doing well!

Carson.Blu

BJ gotta get himself a pedicure with them nasty hobbit feet he got😂

Davey

There's a 5 minute youtube video that explains the wizards and the rings. Its very oversimplified, but straightforward. That would be easier than explaining the Maiar and other races or the fact that Gandalf DOES have one of the three rings etc.

MSBB

Glad you liked and reacted to these, they are good! You guys are hilarious!

CD

The names at the end are people who were in the official fan club at the time of production! I'm one of them! : )

Terri Beth

I'm obsessed with LotR and your reaction video popped up on my recommended last night. I watched about 20 mins and went straight here to see your full reaction! So enjoyable watching along with you guys. :) Can't wait to check out the two other parts and other reactions!

I remember seeing this in the theaters when I was young. I didn't know anything about it before seeing it so I was really confused and a bit upset when it ended, kinda like Asia was. But after that wore off, I was hooked! Now they are perhaps my favorite movies. And the behind-the-scenes stuff, about how much work was put into every detail of these movies, is absolutely incredible. I doubt any one will ever attempt a remake of this series. (Also, they were filmed in New Zealand. It's a beautiful country! They preserved parts of the Shire that you can go and tour.)

Deirdre

This trilogy is so epic and the book that is based on by JRR TOLKIEN, was filled with so much more that Peter Jackson couldn’t put in to these movies. He did an amazing job of filming this amazing story. Everything was filmed in New Zealand where Peter and his partner Fran and their family lives. So much cgi was created by their own company WETA as the look he wanted to achieve had not been done the way he wanted to film. Many awards were won by these 3 films and the extended version of each of them is the only way to watch them. I believe the complete trilogy took 5 years or more to film. Thanks for choosing to watch these movies. Y’all are the BEST!💕👏

Joan Goodrow

One does not simply watch a single LOTR movie without wanting to see the next one

Radiodanoo

I can understand your frustration, I think giving Aragorn a legitimate character arc is not "being a whiny emo pussy." With all due respect, I appreciate a leader with the reluctance of taking up the responsibility, as it shows that the power they will be given will not be used for personal gain. I would insist that it makes the story better for the one they are trying to write. However, I am sure that Tolkien would probably disagree with me, because he is far more intelligent than I am.

Radiodanoo

Honestly there are so many things to love about the series, it could be anything XD But I enjoy the good writing so much, and all the beautiful nature spots and amazing amazing character designs

Radiodanoo

It doesn't....? If it had tracking capabilities then yeah, Sauron would know where it is at all times. It is never implied that Sauron knows where it is at all times, and its never stated plainly either, and Gollum being tortured at Baradur should give you an indication of that. The Nazgul can feel its presence, like a degree of sensing when it is really really close, and sensing it when it is in the general vicinity if it is put on. Fair enough if you don't wanna watch it but thought I would just let ya know :)

Radiodanoo

Well he is a Numenor, yeah? So he's blessed in a way. Plus he has been fighting wars for like over 50 years.

Radiodanoo

When it comes to the fantasy genre, and this is just from my perspective as an amateur writer, it is a lot easier to lose consistency and mess with your stakes when the worlds that you build don't make sense or has a really messy magic system. You can have a movie like this one that is exceptionally written, but stuff like Multiverse of Madness, Wednesday, or Star Wars can fall apart extremely quickly when rules established are broken for the sake of emotion, themes, or visual splendor. In my experience, it is a lot easier to see these errors, and it is easier to make these errors, when the genre is fantasy. I think equating "dragons are stupid, i couldn't possibly believe in that" is different than "wait did the dragon just forget it could breathe fire? Wow that is immensely dumb" Overall, yeah, of course, like what you want, hate what you want, nobody needs permission to like or dislike things. That would indeed be ridiculous. But I think there should be some consistency, and we should celebrate good writing as it has never really made anything worse, only better. :) Just putting my two cents out there

Radiodanoo

Those easter eggs are priceless! Ill have to look for them on my next watchthrough

Radiodanoo

If I were your boss I would completely understand XD

Radiodanoo

There is a reddit thread that shows how you can break up Lord of the Rings into 50 minute "episodes." I really really would recommend this method if you are having a hard time watching movies. They are written incredibly from an objective point of view.

Radiodanoo

just as bad as the first time I fell asleep to it. Good for you two for getting through it,

M Palmiere

This was probably my favorite reaction to this so far, I love how into it Asia was, especially for someone who thought it wasnt something they would like, I always love seeing people getting their eyes opend by the beauty of this story.

samuel Jakob

Many ONLY have tolkiens work. Hence the outrage and kinda sad attempts to jump at finally being relevant and feel important. I agree it’s sad as hell….

Rockstar

I'm a huge Tolkien nerd. Even so, it's wild seeing so many fellow nerds here jump dump Tolkien nerdery think anyone including the reactors are gonna read and understand them. 🤦‍♂️ Know your audience, people.

Julien

Definitely a synching issue that grew worse with time. Hope it's fixed for the rest.

TLDR: there are two kinds of orcs: smaller Dark Lord Orcs and big ol' body-builder White Wizard Orcs, and they are each more loyal to their own boss and don't like each other

MoulinNoir

Hi, great watch along as always! idk if you'll actually read this long ass comment, but i thought i'd explain something about the orcs that you might be interested in and don't worry, i'm being careful to give information without giving any spoilers! The movie could have done a more explicit job of explaining this, but there are two kinds of orcs: The first is the normal kind that are usually under the command of The Dark Lord Sauron, and i think sometimes there are like, wild bands or tribes of them -- either way they are the same basic type of orc: Original Flavor Orc. The Dark Lord sends a group of them to act as minions for the White Wizard Saruman when Sauron commands the wizard to build him an army. In the LotR lore, the dark lord Sauron is basically a fallen angel, and he used to be second in command to this universe's version of lucifer, who is the one that created the orcs in the first place, by corrupting the holy creation of elves. And wizards are basically lesser angels. They are divine beings and not human, so it's less that they are magic because of anything like spells they can cast and more that they are magic because their very existence is mystical and ancient and holy. So dark lord Sauron sends a war party of orcs to the wizard Saruman, but the wizard is able to use those orcs to create his own kind of orcs, the Uruk Hai. The props and make up department does a really good job and you can clearly tell the types of orcs apart if you know to look for it -- the Uruk Hai are the big body-builder types, and the original flavor orcs have that smaller, gobliny look. side note: goblins and orcs are the same, at most an argument could be made that goblins are orcs from a certain environment or area, which would still only make them as different as, like, arctic wolves and wolves from the US. side side note: there is a line in one of the movies about orc breeding that uses the phrase "crossed them with goblin men" which if i recall from the books correctly, goblin men are people that are rumored to have interbred with orcs at some point. They can be found among the "wild men" a population of semi-savage humans that live deep in the hills around Saruman's area of Isengard ANYWAY, dark lord Sauron sends his orcs (original flavor) to Isengard in part to assist the wizard Saruman but also to keep him under control which the white wizard out maneuvers by creating his own super loyal Uruk Hai orcs that are big enough to overpower Original Flavor orcs, and places his Uruk Hai in charge of them. The reason this is all helpful to know is because the two groups don't get along, and you can see it happening in the next two movies if you know to look for it. The big Uruk Hai are loyal to the White Wizard and consider themselves better than other orcs (and they pretty much are, not only are they bigger, stronger, more pain resistant, etc, but they can run out in the daylight no problem, which original flavor orcs can do but find very uncomfortable). Meanwhile, Original Flavor orcs tend to be more... depraved and vicious, in a backstabbing/torture things for fun kind of way. They know that the Dark Lord is more powerful than any wizard, and they resent being bossed around by the larger Uruk Hai. These original flavor orcs are part of a huge army back home in Mordor, and they have their own orders from the Great Eye of flame. Additionally, Sauron has demanded the wizard send him a couple battalions of these Uruk Hai to Mordor to serve in his own massive army and the original flavor orcs there don't like the Uruk Hai much either. The other thing to know is that Saruman the White has wanted power all along and has been seeking the one ring since before anyone knew the dark lord was returning. He still wants to get the ring himself and rule middle earth himself. OH! one more thing! you remember that crystal ball the white wizard showed Gandalf? And Gandalf covered it back up and he was like "we don't know who else might be watching!" That was a seeing stone, or Palanthir - there are a few of them, and they have a sort of seductive magic similar to how the ring makes people want to use it. The dark lord Sauron got some measure of control of them and has been secretly poisoning the mind of anyone who used them since before anyone knew he was coming back. I hope any of that was interesting to you or helps you get more out of the movies! Love the reaction as usual, looking forward to the next two movies!

MoulinNoir

Thank you,love your reactions.

Coming soon!

Asia and BJ

Two towers?

Michael Gaydon

If you are gonna watch Fellowship of the Ring then you have to watch the rest of the trilogy.

Russ

Carry on with my life 😆

Michael Gaydon

Hey Asia Bj,been following you guys ,since uk drill days 😆 great content, ove you guys, when you doing Two towers, so I can g

Michael Gaydon

I've seen dozens of reactors watch the LOTR films and none of them have paid attention as well as you all do! You've picked up all the nuances of the characters and the story! So many reactors miss the part where the ring has a will of its own...that is why it keeps luring people in and finding ways to get found by random creatures because it is trying to get back into the hands of men, since they will is weak due to their desires for power. Once the ring gets back into the hands of man, it will easily get back to Sauron who can then take form and rule once again. I also love how you both get so invested, seeing your excitement, your panic and your awe is just so fun to watch, I feel like I am seeing the movies for the first time again! Also Asia I totally agree with you, Elijah Wood does have the nicest eyes! Dude has been acting since he was like 6 years old, you should really watched The Good Son from when he was a child, it is an incredibly tense film! Also, some of his more recent stuff is really good too - he did a comedy show on FX called Wilfred and it is fantastic! He was also in a movie on Netflix called I Don't Feel At Home In This World Anymore, and it is also really weird but so funny and charming! I cannot wait until you get to the next two films: The Two Towers and Return of the King! Return of the King still holds the records for winning all the Oscars they were nominated for (all 11). These films are masterpieces that were made over 20 years ago but they still hold up and are just magical!

Please continue on with the extended editions.

MotoDork

On the extended editions, at the end of the credits, Peter Jackson honored the members of theonering.net (the definitive Lord of the Rings fan club) by adding the name of every single member to the credits. And he did this for all three extended editions.

MotoDork

This is the extended edition.

MotoDork

Yes. Hugo Weaving.

MotoDork

The guy in the street in the rain in the village of Bree, the one who burps in the camera, is director Peter Jackson. He has a cameo in each film.

MotoDork

Sean Bean plays Boromir. He also plays Ned Stark.

Cynthia M Farrington

Hugo Weaving playing the elf Elrond, is also in the Matrix as agent Smith.

Cynthia M Farrington

Nobody tosses a dwarf!

Cynthia M Farrington

So authentic and relatable. Love it! Epic movie

Jordan Hayes

I remember when I saw these movies in theaters. They came out around Christmas. I try to make a habit of watching all 3 movies around Xmas every year. Greatest trilogy ever made!!!

Patrick Silkes

I recognize Ned Stark too.

Cynthia M Farrington

Isn’t that elf the actor from the Matrix? The main bad guy after Neo?

Cynthia M Farrington

I highly doubt a man who was a devout catholic and don of English literature at Oxford was into cannabis, especially since the books were written well ahead of the counter culture and people started inserting things into Tolkien's work that wasn't there because they thought it was cute to do so. The whole 'they are smoking pot' myth really took off the first time he was approached about making a movie with the Beatles as the hobbits. He was understandably reticent on the whole idea and gave them a flat 'No.' But it was simply the idea that people these days have the word 'weed' so fixed in their brains of only meaning marijuana that they can't conceive of it meaning anything else, despite Tolkien being quite clear in the appendices that it was tobacco. Now I am not saying that Tolkien left no room for such an interpretation because he clearly meant that the tobacco the hobbits smoked was of various varieties, but he probably didn't even think it would be an issue. He very much wrote for himself and since he knew it was tobacco he didn't understand the need to hammer home the fact. He knew what it was and that was good enough. Again, remember Tolkien was convinced that no one would be interested in his work.

Richard Blain Russom

Since you guys are also watching Band of Brothers, keep in mind that the author of Lord of the Rings lived through the great World Wars, and there is a lot of symbolism in these stories, both religious and cultural. It makes for a deeper watch if you keep on the look out… Art imitates life!

Dylan Miller

But it was more than tobacco, it was more like a mixture between the two.

Gwenhwyfar Aine

yes it is

Asia and BJ

It's important to understand that Gandalf and Saruman are not human. They are members of a race of beings called the Maiar. They are immortal spirits similar in some respects to angels. When they take human form those bodies can be killed, but their spirits continue and can create new bodies. Sauron is also one of these, but was corrupted thousands of years in the past. The Maiar were made by Eru Iluvatar, the God who created everything. They were created to be agents of God just like angels are in Christianity. They have free will so some of them rebelled. You can think of Sauron as the Satan of Middle Earth, a fallen angel. He was killed by Isildur, but his spirit is immortal and tied to the ring.He doesn't seem to have created a body by the time of Lord of the Rings.

Mr Jackpots

Glad you did the extended. Yes, they take longer, but it explains a lot of important information in every single film, plus they add a lot of comic relief! Fun Facts: Elijah Wood, at the age of 19, played Frodo Baggins, who is supposed to be in his 50's by the time he leaves the Shire. 😂 But, I can't imagine anyone else for the part. The pipe weed is different. It's not cannabis nor tobacco, but something in between!

Gwenhwyfar Aine

Ughhhhhhh... Now we need the other 2 asap! lol!... And is this one the extended one?

Salamander

Fantasy is such a fun genre. This is great literature just like Alice in Wonderland and the Chronicles of Narnia.

Cynthia M Farrington

Subscribed to watch the trilogy. Nice first watch! I am so glad you are watching the extended version. It is long and gives extra info you may not otherwise see. However, there are some scenes coming up that I am still shocked were not included in the originals. Looking forward to the next 2!

flink

And sorry if my first replay came off as harsh. I should have been a little calmer in my response to you. You don't know me and I don't know you so maybe your comment wasn't as pointed as I had read it. Sometimes it is harder to "hear" the voice in a text so, again, my apologies. Let's start over on the good foot :)

Perry Taliaferro

Hobbits are small compared to humans. Gandalf is human, which is why the hobbit house is too small for him to fit comfortably in.

Cynthia M Farrington

Clearly they are fine, and I didn't say a thing about them being "stumped", I was merely concerned that they wouldn't enjoy it as much as they may have enjoyed the theatrical release version with its faster flow and shorter run time. I was concerned with their enjoyment, not their ability to grasp the movie. I say again, "I THINK" the extended release of the first movie is paced too slowly. Period. For those of us familiar with the books but even more so for first time fans. Not JUST Asia and BJ but for most everyone unfamiliar with the books. However, if me posting my opinion upset you, I apologize.

Perry Taliaferro

Welcome in fam!

Asia and BJ

oh yeah def its just for a first time watcher I would prob recommend the theatrical version.

Spencer

New patron here. I just have to see the full reaction early! These are my favorite movies

Angela

Welcome to the world... you are raction people but... enjoy. It's great.

Morgan Nicolas

Brilliant cast of actors and the stunning country of New Zealand. I love how yet another movie Shaun Bean is killed off. No matter how big his character is he should just wear a red shirt and have done with it. From Game of Thrones to James bond the man is doomed. Some exceptions like his breakout role as Sharpe in Sharpe's Rifles (brilliant series) set in 19th century European warfare against the French where he survived long term. :)

Michael Paddon

Great reaction, extended version is great

Kyle Turman

They're clearly fine, a few extra scenes aren't going to stump them

Kyle Turman

They're fine, reactors can handle a few extra scenes

Kyle Turman

Subscribed to the patreon when I saw you guys were doing lord of the rings. Can't wait foe the next one. I will say though, you playing the movies audio in the patreon version makes it hard to sync my own copy to it.

Eric Wallace

Had to subscribe just to watch this. Also, while I do love the extended editions, they aren't the best for a first time watcher. I think it gives some unnecessary info. Great reactions though! cant wait until yall watch the 2nd and 3rd parts .

Spencer

keep your attitude to yourself. Read the context. smh lol

Jonah Bertorelli

Okay I got it working now, thanks!

This is no mere Ranger.

They created an entire actual language. People learn and can speak lord of the rings elvish. The mega fans and ComiCon level patrons go the extra mile and learn it. haha

Jonah Bertorelli

I'm hyped for this trilogy. Subbed for you guys. The audio got out of sync 3 quarters through. Still loved the watch. Thanks

Hutch

It's tobacco. Read the books.

Justin Knight

Verbally and visually they tend to make their "pipe weeds" out to be like tobacco. Calling it 'longbottom leaf' and the brown dried look. But everyone seems to get pretty giggly after smoking. We all know what it is :P And they do call them weeds

Jonah Bertorelli

If you guys have been enjoying the fantasy so far, like star wars, and lord of the rings, you should check out harry potter, they are the trifecta of fantasy in American cinema culture. They are the three biggest franchises of my time and my favorite three. they are all great in their own ways. And you should check out the hobbit trilogy after this, if you like these movies. Its the prequal trilogy to LOTR and shows Bilbo's adventure. Very fun films. A little more lighthearted than the LOTR.

Jonah Bertorelli

The extended versions have a lot of relevent info. Not every single scene that was deleted for theaters was important but enough of them were that it made little sense to cut them! So fans are pretty die hard on the whole "watch the extended versions." because a few very important facts and a couple really funny scenes get left out, where they could have definitely cut other scenes that were of less importance and just kind of stall to create suspense. It makes it an entirely different experience. Even though its only like 30 extra minutes.

Jonah Bertorelli

It works fine. Its an embedded videoplayer from Vimeo, you probably have a setting turned on in your browser that prevents you from viewing embedded video's. Some privacy tools like adblockers or scriptblockers can also cause this. Good luck.

I'm not sure why, no one else has had issues. You may want to check your settings. :)

Asia and BJ

Sorry Because of its privacy settings, this video cannot be played here. This is what it said after I subscribed.

This is no mere Ranger.

They used to teach this in late grade school. Too bad the commies took over education ever before then & good teachers ,passionate about real education gave way to this kid toucher mentality.

shawn boyce

Rankin and Bass the hobbit & lord of the rings was played in 4th & 5th grade accompanying the reading of the Tolkien books. The Amazon nonsense series was accompanied by hilarious yt comments such as (paraphrasing) when billbo baggins said Luke I am your father & I can't quit you. I openly weeped. Tolkien wrote these stories about world War one from a European prospective. In a fantastic way to enthrall the reader and to provoke hard thoughts on a person's place and impact on the world. Rings of power can kiss the ring starting with the one on the center of my ass (paraphrasing Tony soprano from the series you just started) (reject any thoughts on doing the Amazon woke twisting on the literature that Tolkien actually wrote)

shawn boyce

For as much as I love the movies by Peter Jackson, READ the books. Peter Jackson makes Aragorn into a whiny emo pussy. He was not like that in the books.

Jerry

A lot of people make a big thing about the 'pipe weed', but Tolkien made it plain in his books that it was a type of tobacco.

Richard Blain Russom

My dad read The Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings trilogy to me every night before bed. We went and saw these movies when I was 12 years old. Camped out in front of the local theater with a bunch of like-minded nerds. Did it every year for three years (they released these movies around Christmas three years running). One of my better childhood memories. I still watch this series every year in December.

Andrew

I call BS. I wouldn't doubt you watch that next one by now and recorded it because you were heated at the end. Put it on patreon I'll watch it here, LOL remember this movie was made decades ago and it's still stands up. I know kids who have watched this and by that I mean people the age of 20 to 25 who think this movie came out yesterday. Tolkien wrote a good story and if you wonder about the particular language and detail to naming everything , it was because Tolkien was actually a professor of English language and literature. You are literally watching a story that was inspired and written just about a hundred years ago by this guy.

Tonio

amazing

Nick Dewberry

As much as I love this trilogy, I think the extended version of this first movie really slowed the pace too much for first time viewers and/or those unfamiliar with the books. I truly suggest the extended version of the remaining two... if this extended version didn't sour you on the rest :( but yes, I think the theatrical release of this first one would have been the better choice for most people. Even I, a lover of the books and movies, get bored at times with the extended Fellowship movie, haha

Perry Taliaferro

When I seen you two were doing GOT and LOTR I joined you on Patreon! Great reaction to one of the best cinematic experiences of all time. It’s just gets better and better. Can’t wait for the Two Towers.

Joey

lol you never seen lord of the rings gtfo!

Morgan Nicolas

It is awesome that you can't wait to get to the next part :-) The thing about this story is it's not about being a fantasy or Sci Fi - it's about who people are and who they can be, for better or worse. The characters are like mirrors we can look in and see ourselves. I hope you enjoy the rest!

Rhonda Turner

Sooooo, newbie here and I gotta say that I sure hope you get to the Marvel movies as they are very well done and you will, I promise, enjoy them as they are more about the characters as people not just "caped heroes".

Perry Taliaferro

Y'all did a great job with this one. There's a lot going on and you really embraced it and tried hard to catch all of the details. Thanks Asia, for giving fantasy a chance. BJ you did really good catching all the little nuanced stuff going on. Love how into it y'all are. Can't wait for the next one.

Sir_Dalagad

Idk I always thought he was the weakest actor in these movies though I still like the character.

Angelo Scarberry

Did ya'll notice that Legolas the elf with the bow is Will Turner from Pirates Of The Caribbean? His name is Orlando Bloom and a phenomenal actor. These movies are amazing and I'm so happy ya'll are enjoying them as much as I do. Can't wait for the next one so let's get these likes going guys ❤❤

Lisa Chaffins

Lol!! Joel! You have stay awake! Apart from it being a little long.. it is really good movie! I’m really excited to see the next one. ☺️ Thanks for giving it a shot with us! ❤️

Asia and BJ

Really enjoyed watching you get into and enjoy this movie. Can't wait till you watch the next part, which is my personal favorite of all the movies.

Chris Marrero

I will check those out Jacob thanks! I love origin stories and the history, especially when it comes to stuff like this. It's so interesting.

☻Shell🎔⋆˚🐾˖°

BJ, you did such a good job at really understanding the movie, I'm also glad Asia enjoyed it. Maybe using subtitles for the other two movies would help you follow along better. The characters have different accents and there are a lot of moving parts so I think it'll help. Great reaction you two, thanks and cant wait for the next one.

Patty Estrada

Some really good sub plots of love, family and friendship. Really that's a big part of why everyone loves this movies series.

jason

Honestly I heard it on some Tolkien lore YouTube page! The broken sword, Tolkien untangled, & nerd of the rings are some of my favorites!

Jacob Burkard

OMG I just joined and this is one of the first things I see. Reaffirming I made the right call in joining. This series is my favorite trilogy of all time and I’ve read the books over and over since I was a kid. I can’t wait to watch this one tonight after I get the little one off to bed.

Melissa

Boromir.

Catherine LW

The guy who plays Ned Stark in Game of Thrones is one of the travelers of the fellowship. I can't recall his name in the LOTR movie but it's Sean Bean alright.

Tracy Smith

Lost it after hearing the ring had Lowjack on it.

Mike Adams

Loved this reaction! BJ, you’re probably the first reactor I’ve seen who is able to decipher this world so well. Very intuitive and astute!

Catherine LW

As always, great reaction. Welcome to The Lord of the Rings universe.

Wayne Polk

Magic is extremely abstract in this world. It's not all elemental lava fissure bombs. There is some practical magic done but most is subtle, and deeply ingrained in philosophical concepts. Like Aragorn, he is a bit magic. He is a powerful warrior. Just his blood, willpower and name has "power". It's just not powering up and throwing boulders. It's spiritual.

Rockstar

The Lord of the Rings books (and the author, J.R.R. Tolkien) has an entire semester course dedicated to its study at my old college. It was fascinating to watch Asia's reactions grow throughout the film, this is the perfect film series to be introduced to the fantasy genre. I can't wait to see y'all continue with The Two Towers and Return of the King!

stray

Why are you making such a fuzz about never having interest in fantasy? Americans seem to be walking on eggshells when it comes to personal interest. Like subjectivity isn't taught in school at all. Can't imagine getting angry at someone for not liking what I like. That seems bizarre and borderline evil. It will be fun seeing this though. I'm not here for validation, I'm here to see what you think, not what I think. That would be sad. Let's go!

Rockstar

Is it safe to say Aragorn also know how to speak dwarf language? He understood the very unkind words Gimli used towards the elf?

Duarte Dunn

Legolas (elf), Gimli (dwarf) and Aragorn went back into the woods to go rescue Merry and Pippin from the orcs. That is why Aragorn said "let's go hunt some orc." The mission of Frodo and Sam is to get the ring to Mordor. The mission of Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli is to rescue Merry and Pippin.

Duarte Dunn

I knew the 3 hairs was about peace, cherishing the hair encasing it to prove elves and dwarves were bonded by it and that she wasn't an evil sorceress, like some dwarves thought, but I'd not heard that story before regarding them, hence why Legolas smiled, and why the three hairs. It makes so much more sense lol - is it in the book? Its been a while since I've read it tbh

☻Shell🎔⋆˚🐾˖°

The author of these books was fascinated by languages and history. The languages that they speak in these movies are all created by the author as full languages. Some universities actually have courses to teach you these languages. Just imagine our frustration when these movies came out though. They filmed all 3 together in an 18 month timespan, but they released each movie a year apart from each other. We had to wait a whole year for the next movie.

Tombstone Shadow

So happy you guys enjoyed it!! Love sharing opinions & little tidbits with other lotr fans! Saw a lot of your questions have already been answered so I’ll just throw out a few fun facts! Gimli was super upset in the mines because the former occupants were extended family of his, Tolkien(wrote the books) actually created an entire language(the elvish you were asking about), there’s an old elvish story of a powerful elf who came to Galadriel 3 times to ask for a strand of her hair(for purposes of power) & she declined, so when she gives THREE strands to gimli, they show Legolas smile(I think, because his character would know this story) & I think that’s an awesome small detail, & finally boromir, one of my favorite characters in all of cinema, he really was a good man, except when dealing with literally the most evil thing in the world.. & then died defending those who couldn’t defend themselves. Definition of tragic. Loved the reaction & happy Asia was pleasantly surprised 🔥 & BJ my man you are spot on with the analysis! Tolkien is all about the morals baby, even the smallest person can change the course of the future, we don’t get to choose our circumstances we just have to decide what to do with the time that is given to us, & just being kind & spreading peace! Can’t wait for the rest of the journey you two!❤️

Jacob Burkard

Todd level😂😂😂 golden buddy

Jacob Burkard

I would suggest subtitles when you watch, it really helps with the character’s names and the places they are going.

Tara

The actor playing Boromir, Sean Bean, the one who you said looks like Daryl from TWD, plays Ned Stark in GOT. At the end of the movie, Asia asked why they can’t just toss the ring and it’s just like BJ said, it must be destroyed otherwise someone else will find it and be corrupted and potentially find its way back to its master and the only place it can be destroyed is the same place it was created in the fiery pit of Mount Doom. The Fellowship characters: Aragorn is the heir to the throne. The actor, Viggo Mortensen, playing him was a last minute replacement and almost didn’t say yes, but his son was a big fan of the books. He missed the two months of training and arrived just a day or two before shooting began. The swordsman who trained with the actors said he’d never worked with anyone before who was that good. Boromir was the other man in the fellowship who was shot with the arrows and died, but not before killing a few Orcs, Aragorn put on Boromir’s wrist cuffs. Gimli (Gim-lee) is the dwarf and he doesn’t trust elves. The actor, John Rhys Davis, is actually 6’ 1” and is the tallest member of the fellowship. Legolas (Leg-Oh-Las) is the elf with the blonde hair and bow and arrow. The actor playing him, Orlando Bloom, was Will Turner in Pirates of the Caribbean opposite Johnny Depp. The pirates needed his blood if you remember. Merry and Pippin (Pip) are the two “troublemaking” hobbits. At the end of this movie, they drew the attention of the Orcs away from Frodo and ended up getting captured. Gandalf, Sam and Frodo you both know. Asia was asking what language they were speaking other than English, they were speaking Elvish. Aragorn grew up in Rivendell and speaks the language. I think it’s so beautiful when he and Arwen speak Elvish. By the way, she is played by Liv Tyler. Steven Tyler’s daughter from Aerosmith. Oh, Asia also asked about the protection when Arwen got to the River with Frodo. She is an Elf and used the magic of her people. Also at the end, Asia asked about the group splitting off. Frodo had to continue the journey on his own, but Sam wouldn’t let him. Merry and Pip were taken by the Orcs so when Gimli and Legolas were asking what they were going to do now, Aragorn said they were going to hunt Orcs and save Merry and Pippin. Gimli and Legolas got excited and started to follow Aragorn. I hope I answered the questions that you had. Thank you so much for posting. This story is so epic. I’m looking forward to the next chapter

LOTR is the best. Glad you are onboard. Thank you.

Get ready for an amazing ride 😎 Some backstory: Hobbits are typically 3 - 4 feet tall at the most - they're about half the height of normal humans. Gandalf (g-ahn-d-ahlf) is a wizard, but he is also a Maiar, a spirit creature who takes the form of a human man in Middle Earth. Saruman is also a Maiar, as is Sauron. When Frodo and Gandalf were talking on the cart at the beginning, and Gandalf was saying "I just gave your uncle a nudge out the door", as well as the Lonely Mountain and Smaug on the map, and Bilbo telling the kids at his birthday party the story about how the trolls turned to stone - this all refers to the previous book, The Hobbit, which was written before LoTR. Peter Jackson ended up doing a 3 movie series for The Hobbit also. One of the themes of the book is industrialization - in this case, Saruman destroying the forests to build his army. J.R.R. Tolkien saw industrialization happen during World War I. Here are a couple of easter eggs in the film: Check at 1:05:45, that's Peter Jackson's cameo for this movie, the guy who burps as the Hobbits are coming into Bree. At 1:14:51, you can see the Hobbit at the rear, his prosthetic Hobbit foot is coming off 😂 At 2:03:02, you can see Christopher Lee (Saruman) had a band-aid on his finger from getting it slammed in a door. I know this is early, but at the end of the third movie, make SURE to watch the credits for the actors - Annie Lennox sings an amazingly emotional song, so don't miss it (I know you typically stop the movie at the credits, but definitely stay for that last song.)

Again, here is another show.we had to wait a whole year for the next movie. They started in December 2001 and the 3rd movie came out in December 2003. I bought all the dvd's of the Lord of the rings and they gave a lot of info on how it was filmed. There was an amazing amount of work to put together each movie and Peter Jackson said they barely finished each movie in time. The 3rd movie they were still working on special effects the 1st week in December and it was scheduled to open in theaters December 17, 2003. Howard Shore who did the fabulous music for all 3 films worked extremely hard to match the music to the films as each time Peter Jackson changed the edit, they had to change how the music fit in each scene. Everyone who worked on this project put a lot of love into this and many were fans of the books.

Lord of the Rings, as a publication by J. R. R. Tolkien was written between 1937 and 1949, published in 1954. LOTR predates nearly all modern 'fantasy' style non-myth influenced stories, books, shows, or movies. Even 'World of Warcraft' started as 'Warcraft' aka 'Orcs vs Humans'... Tolkein is credited with coming up with 'Orc'!! Tolkein was a linguist, all of the languages that appear in his books and attributed media like movies and games, are actual languages he came up with. (Developed to follow literary and pronunciation rules, just like modern languages today!) The Elvish language you hear spoken in the movie is 'Quenya', but there is also' Sindarin'... he was such a language nerd he came up with different regions and dialects, slang and jokes for these languages. Tolkein's love for his writings and stories was so complete that he even wrote about the history of the world, like in time before The First Age, Second or Third (LOTR takes place in the 'Third Age') in the Silmarillion. The Amazon show, "Rings of Power" takes place in the First Age, and has some familiar faces, ex: Galadriel was more of a low ranking elf (she didn't possess her Ring of Power yet, but was still a strong elf in her own right to survive like Elrond for over 3000+ years to become the 'Lady of Lothlorien') https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/J._R._R._Tolkien https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quenya https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Silmarillion PS watching after credits: Gandalf has one of the Elvish Rings of Power, just like Elrond and Galadriel. (Part of the reason why he's so close with those two elves specifically) Gandalf isn't a "man" or human, he is a "Istari" (Elvish word for Wizard or Wise One), an original "Maiar", one of the beings created by "Iluvatar" (Tolkiens 'God' type character) before even Middle-Earth, or light and darkness was made. When Iluvatar created time and existence/physical Ea or Earth, the Maiar (Gandalf and the others) went forth to help shepherd life and creation serving physically the other 'Ainur' on behalf of Iluvatar. (Ainur are like archangels if you will, very high celestial and primal beings that existed before Ea, before light and darkness) https://tolkiengateway.net/wiki/Gandalf

You guys didn’t seem to recognize him, but you saw Sean Bean (Boromir) in Game of Thrones. He was Eddard Stark.

Mike Adams

Jesse

Another FYI, you have already meet the actor that plays Legolas (blond elf), he played Will Turner in Pirates of the Caribbean (Orlando Bloom). The dark haired elves, Lord Elrond is the same actor that played agent Smith in The Matrix & Arwin (Aragorn's lady) is played by Aerosmith's, Steven Tyler's daughter .

Kara Davis

I've tried to watch this movie 3 times haven't got through it yet, I'm try again with you guys.

A few points :) (no spoilers either) The guy that plays Gimli? He's Indiana Jones's friend Sallah lol John Rhys-Davies. The reason why Gimli, first and foremost, asks for a strand of Galadriel's hair? The elves and dwarves have a VERY bad history. The legend about Galadriel amongst the dwarves is that she's wicked and evil. He wanted the hair to be able to put it in the great halls of the dwarves encased, to be able to prove she was a golden haired beauty, good and kind. Not evil at all. Its explained more in the books. :) She ''Could'' be evil, as you saw, but she chose the path of good, and helped them as well. Gimli wanted her to be forever held in high honor among the dwarves. Just like worshipping a God in a sense and creates a bond between future elves and dwarves. Aragorn was heir to the ring, but men are more corrupted and easily tempted, so it made sense, Aragorn vowing to protect the ring bearer, because he's good. He doesn't crave or want power. Gandalf had already told Aragorn about the ring being found, he was purposely waiting in the Prancing Pony for Frodo to protect him in case Gandalf couldn't. But? He is able to be corrupted by it, yet he turned away from it, letting Frodo go, proving unlike most men, especially Boromir? He's pure of heart and a true warrior. Legolas isn't affected because elves are mostly pure of heart too. Because the evil is spreading? They leave middle earth, so not to be corrupted themselves. If they are pure? They can leave middle earth, to cross into another world almost, that's pure light. Elvish haven. And dwarves crave gold and jewels. But not power like within the ring. They live in mountains, not on the earth per say, IN the earth itself. Hence Gimli doesn't get as affected by it either. Sorry for the long message but I had to kinda explain lol some think Gimli asking for the hair creepy, but it wasn't. It was a great honor that she gave him 3 hairs, not 1. You were right Asia, as to why the extended, you guys caught so much, well done! You'll find out why Boromir is how he is, but he DID redeem himself. I'm SO relieved you guys enjoyed it - there's sooooooo much more to come! It took years to write these books, and many re-writes, new languages, mixed with old myths. Oddly, Christopher Lee, may he RIP, aka Saruman was one of the few who'd read the books BEFORE the movies religiously. He was a huge fan and read them more than once. And it was Viggo, aka Aragorn who pushed the most for more Elvish language to be spoken. The friendships between them all is so special. It's truly a work of art and the actors? There's so many extra's in it, some are families in New Zealand. Peter gave many New Zealanders work via these films.

Just so you know at the end, in the last battle in the woods Viggo Mortensen (Aragorn) really knocked the knife out of the air with his sword in real life. That’s pretty bad ass right there.
