What's with the blurry square? I thought maybe it was to censor gore or something but then it sticks around over non violent scenes. Besides, anyone upset over blood in a historical action film needs to harden up and stop being such a pussy.

Commodus was always going to be the next Ceasar; not Lucius, as Commodus is the son of Marcus. Lucius would only be Ceasar if Commodus died, as then he would be the next male heir. Marcus knew his son was weak and power hungry, which is why he said to Lucilla, "If only you were born a man," as she is the older sister and he knew she would either rule as he did or return it to a Republic which is what he asked of Maximus. All in all, you guys got it, and I am glad you reacted to it. This remains one of my favourite films of all time. I don't want a sequel, but unfortunately Hollywood needs to get their grimey hands on everything good. 😮‍💨

"My name is Maximus Decimus Meridius, Commander of the armies of the North, General of the Felix Legions, loyal servant to the true Emperor, Marcus Aurelius, father to a murdered son, husband to a murdered wife, and I will have my vengeance...in this life, or the next!" Coldest. Line. Ever!

Dan Gonya

lol you 2 have been together for awhile for you two to know what's on each others mind. Being carried around with shade. Yea this is another good film, saw that in the theaters

Saints_Madness

Carol Rocha

All I can say... Spartacus Blood and Sand.

Kyndu

Great Film.

Kyndu

Joaquin. Phoenix his portrayal is so awful and that is why we hate his character so much. You guys have to check out joker it is Joakim at his best

Jason Augustine

One of the best lines ever delivered. That's why he won the Oscar!!!

Jason Augustine

Glad y’all watched Gladiator. I don’t know of anyone who doesn’t like this movie. Russell Crowe is a great actor and I don’t know of any other actor that could have played Maximus. This video contains 30 facts people may not know about Gladiator. https://youtu.be/kIkyjPuDLE0

It was not unheard of for kings/Emperors/rulers to kill the heirs to their throne as what would have probably happened to Lucius in this story.

Maryanne Murphy

We love yall so much...we need wayyyy more Asia and BJ's in this world so I'll always support you guys... Much love 💖💖

Mikhail Gorbachev (former President of the Soviet Union), was once asked if he watched American movies, and if so, did he have a favorite movie. He said yes, and he actually said that GLADIATOR was his favorite film.

Gladiator won many oscars in 2001. You can see why. Great movie when they used to judge movies on merit not politics.

I know you all are wrapping up Breaking Bad right now. If you want a quick series to tackle next, you should consider Rome from HBO. Two seasons. It is set about 200 years before Gladiator, and focuses on how Rome went from being a Republic, to an Empire. The first Caesar, Mr Julius himself. It is scandalous, amusing, disgusting, and quite accurate in its historical timeline. Rome was something else as it ruled the west for nearly 1000 years… America has only been around for 250 and it seems like forever. People were the same 2000 years ago and it blows my mind.

Rocky Barz

Hell naw, don't tone anything down. This is why we love him. The dichotomy and synergy between Asia and BJ's reactions is great.

Amyntas

So many great references in this movie. Thumbs up or thumbs down. Bread and Circuses.

If you guys like this watch TROY. Brad Pitt. Greece 3200 BC. I know you heard of Achilles heel and Trojan Horse. Both stories birthed here.

Thank you so much!!

Asia and BJ

Wow!!!❤️‍🔥 The power one person can generate by having the courage and belief in oneself is simply amazing💯 ❤️❤️ What Maximus had for his family and Rome... created the ripple effect to everyone around him... who in turn, recieved what he had always possessed internally!!! The beauty and strength of LOVE!!!!!!💯❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥 Aww I loved this movie Asia and BJ, so glad y'all did too😁💞

Donna Bannister

You can't deny this is an absolute banger of a classic. Troy's good too with Brad Pitt BUT this is the role that made Russell imo. Love your reaction lol Asia ''Not only did I have to see it, I had to hear it, and then hear it from you too.'' To BJ 🤣🤣 The soundtrack to this is stunning though too.

Rita Bickford

Yayyy!!!

Rita Bickford

I didn't know that! I've loved this movie for years! Thanks 👍

Rita Bickford

Gladiator 2 is in production and will be released next year. The plot will be centred around Lucius

Davey

Are y'all ready to CRY?!

Meg Woodcraft

I usually watch on my phone which allows me to zoom in a fair way so i can jussst see their heads. Makes the movie screen much easier to see if that helps at all 🔎

Meg Woodcraft

An interesting fact is Oliver Reed who played Proximo died during filming and so they used a deleted scene and several shots of body doubles to literally end his character (look carefully at what he is wearing just before the soldiers stab him to death and and you'll see it's not the same outfit his body double is wearing when they rush up the stairs).

JL Green

I knew yall would love this, but I cried like a baby when his family was murdered 😪

Deborah Lewis

That statue that Proximo touched at 1:17 is the roman god Jupiter (the equivalent of Zeus in Greek mythology...god of lightning, and head of the Roman dieties.) Go back and listen to that final song - sung by Lisa Gerrard and written by Hans Zimmer. It's called "Now We Are Free". The lyrics are in a language that Lisa Gerrard made up as a child, but it's so emotional. Please check it out on the channel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NBE-uBgtINg

Russell Crowe co-stars in one of my favorite movies that essentially no one has reacted to: The Nice Guys. Would probably never win a poll, but one of these days I'll convince some reactors to watch it =p

dabbingcannasseur

Russell Crowe is one of the best actors of his generation. He was on some roll in the early 2000's. Every movie he was in was fire

Davey

Good movie and I think you were surprised by it. Did you notice some of the same music was in Man on Fire? Get well BJ✌🏼

Dan63

hey guys love your reactions. can you please make the movie screen bigger if its possible thanks

joel nygen

I am so glad you're reviewing this! I love this film. Very entertaining, the only thing I consider close to historical fact (or at least close to it is the look of the Roman Coliseum before time caused it to disintegrate.

JL Green

YES! You've seen another of my top 5! "Are you not entertained" Asia? LOL This movie is one of my absolute favorites not just because of ancient Rome being the setting but because of the story, as you pointed out. The execution was just perfect. The writing, editing, music, art direction, they made the movie go by so quickly I hardly notice it was 2 and a half hours long. Also, as I pointed out in the winning poll comments, the movie was released on my 6th birthday. By the way, the music is by the same man who did Pirates of the Caribbean. Did you recognize the shots of a hand grazing the vegetation being the hand of Maximus at the end? That opening shot was Maximus heading to the afterlife, to his family. In the real opening, Maximus observes a little bird flying off. That was foreshadowing of him being free as a bird when he finally dies after completing his mission of revenge against Commodus. That was another reason for loving this movie. The structure of writing was like reading a classic novel. Russell Crowe (Maximus) became a household name because of this movie. He's now one of the most renowned actors in this half of the 21st century. He's a great man that hails from New Zealand. That country has produced a host of blossoming actors and actresses and it still is to this day. He's starred in many other films that earned praise, like A Beautiful Mind. I suggest you check that one out next. Joaquin Phoenix (Commodus) really did sensational work. He was corruption and malice incarante. Insecurity was all over the character. He's one of those "love to hate" characters. A solemn fact to point out is about another actor in this movie. Oliver Reed (Proximo, the man who bought Maximus and the other slaves and mentored them) died during production of the movie. His character originally wasn't supposed to die the way the movie presented. The producers and editors conjured every trick possible to bring Proximo to his "final" end as seamlessly as possible. They inserted some previous shots of Reed with CGI into other shots, probably used stand-ins for the walk across the barracks in the dark, inserted other takes of a previous scene and a mannequin of Reed's body to stab in the back to kill Proximo off as seen in the movie. It's always a pity to hear of actors passing during shoots or right afterward. This reaction was SO ENTERTAINING to watch. I've never seen Asia quiver in fear and disgust so violently! It was cute, adorable and funny at the same time! Yes, BJ your play-by-play was a bit over the top. I respectfully suggest you tone it down a bit. I know you enjoy the stunts and choreography in movies like this but... think of the audience huh? Lol ;) I still love you bro. Love you guys! Looking forward to your next poll!
