hank you so much for reacting to the movie. One of my favourites.. I hope you are able to do the other movies as well... As for what side Jack was on... Jack only cared about his ship... he wanted the Black Pearl back. But he is also not going to let someone die needlessly (I mean he saved Elizabeth when she fell off the cliff, knowing that it would probably mean he would be found out. And even then, if Norrington had done as Jack had said and gone back to the Dauntless immediately after Jack went into the cave to talk to Barbossa. There would have been more men at the ship to protect it. Barbossa didn't really help matters either as Jack expected the Barbossa's men to go out of the cave with the rowboats, and that those at the Daunltess would see them and be able to hold them off until he and WIll lifted the curse. Anyway... I'm sorry for my babbling. I'm glad you enjoyed the movie

Our culture's fascination with pirates really began when Robert Louis Stevenson's book Treasure Island came out. Interestingly enough, it actually was controversial at the time with many critics slamming it. The first part of the criticism was that there were no real moral values. If you read most of the classics, they tend to center around virtues and vices. Treasure Island was actually written as a bedtime story to Stevenson's adopted son. It's the pinnacle of entertainment for the sake of entertainment. The second criticism which heavily ties into the first was in the character of Long John Silver. Silver was one of a kind in that he was both good and evil depending on which side benefited him most. He's the guy you can throw back a beer with and have a great time but also the guy who might stab you in the back when you weren't looking. He created a stereotype for how we view pirates - charming but dangerous. It was a stereotype that both Johhny Depp and Geoffrey Rush had to emulate and personally I think they both did a phenomenal job.

Also wanted to note: I can't think of better musical scores anywhere than these movies have. And by the way, anyone who says "Arrr..." as a pirate character is either directly or indirectly imitating Robert Newton as Long John Silver in Disney's Treasure Island (and in a subsequent non-Disney movie called Long John Silver). To answer Asia's question from earlier, the metal thing they put the hot coals in was known as a bed warmer and was the way that wealthy people would warm their beds at night. I actually had one for a long time but didn't know what it was for the longest time. Really hope you do the next two of these movies!

They strapped the cannon to his bootstraps and threw him overboard in the ocean....kinda like attaching a cinder block to someone's feet for a drowning. They sent him to the depths.

He also went to some of the children's cancer hospitals across the country to visit the sick kids as Jack Sparrow.

Love this franchise - my favorites among Johnny Depp movies, can't beat him as Captain Jack Sparrow, yo-ho!! Yeah, Jack was not cursed till he took one of the coins out of the chest - remember it disappeared in his hand and Will noticed it just before he started fighting Barbosa.

This movie was based on the ride at Disney Land and Disney World and when it became a big summer blockbuster, they incorporated Captain Jack Sparrow and other elements of the movie into the ride. Johnny Depp is such a versatile actor and has said that he loves playing Captain Jack. Keith Richards from The Rolling Stones was part of his inspiration for the character. He loved playing Jack so much that they have made multiple sequels, but the first three movies are the the best. I’m not sure if you’ve seen the Lord of the Rings trilogy, but the actor who played Will Turner is in those movies and I highly recommend them.

He stole one of the pieces, you see him flipping it in his fingers after Barbosa stabs him. I love these movies, especially the first 3.

This classic came out in 2003, a surprise smash hit of the summer Johnny Depp reached the pinnacle of his career being CAPTAIN Jack Sparrow the sequels tried to replicate the charm but it turned stale by the third movie Jack wasn't cursed until he pulled some pieces of the gold from the chest during his "negotiation" with Barbossa he played this one last trick to buy some insurance to make sure he can fight as long as possible and get Will's medallion along with his own to breake the curse "at the opportune moment" Him saying "that's interesting" was just Jack being coy
