gus planned the 2 guys with shotguns to set up jesse 'saving the day' - snapping jesse out of his depressive funk and to give him some pride - Further putting a wedge between jesse and walt - Gus knew walt would question it, Jesse would get offended (like 'what you dont think i have what it takes? they seem to think so!' ) - it feels like Gus is trying to separate them and as Jesse evolves, could replace Walt in the operation - Jesse is younger than walt, and after he gets the cook down 100% he can provide more than what walt could (keep his mouth shut, no baggage like family to make things complicated like Walt has etc)
