Congratulations on completing a classic, rest assure, this is not based on a true story. Oh I even jumped at the wheel chair scene, even though I seen it, as well. I think it was Asia's scream that transferred over to me and made me jump. I have delved down the rabbit hole of horror and backstories to verifying whether or not it was real. In this case no, it was inspired by Ed Gein. If you look up Ed you'll realize the striking similarities including digging up dead bodies and using the skin. I believe it also inspired Silence of the lambs and Psycho. Lol Mad cow disease, fun fact. The mad cow disease is the result of cannibalism. People in the UK thought it was a smart Idea to mix in remaining scrap from a butcher back to the feed of the livestock. What started to happen is the proteins in the brain were not folding correctly which resulted in the violent shakes and eventually death. They studied tribes abroad and they would practice cannibalism and go through the same symptoms. They later started calling it, Prions disease. Oh, You remember watching The book of Eli, that's why they were checking everyone to see if they had the shakes. They were checking to see if they had prions disease from cannibalism. Back in the days they really pushed the limits at putting out disturbing horror movies some which are, Cannibal Holocaust- The animal deaths portrayed in this film were real, this was before animal protection rights, and the director was arrested because the courts thought the deaths of the actors were real as well. But they showed up to court showing they were alive and the charges were dropped. This was later added to the list of banned films Guinea Pig Flowers of flesh and blood- This one involve the famous actor Charlie Sheen, he thought he was watching an actual snuff film and notified the FBI but after investigating the film it was just really good special effects. Another added to the banned list.
