Just watched your reaction. A couple of things you missed or didn't know. Mel Brooks is Jewish, so he likes to poke fun at people that persecuted the Jews over history like the Germans, the Arabs, etc. When the sheriff rode into town, the welcome committee offered a laurel, and hearty handshake. This timing of his talking throws people off He was making a pun about Laurel and Hardy, a former comedy team. Did you notice when he was putting his pen in the older, Hedley helped him, telling him, "Just think of your secretary." I've read where Brooks and Prior had long talks about using the N word. Richard Prior is the one that insisted he use it in the movie, but you never heard Mel Brooks say it. And Randolph Scott was in over 60 westerns. That's why the townspeople revered him.
Thanks, Greg
PS: You should really watch and react to History of the World by Mel Brooks, too. The Spanish Inquisition is the best part of the movie.

Well, that was an utter waste of time then. I'm sure Richard Pryor didn't have a problem with the movie as he wrote Mongo's part in the script, but that doesn't mean that some idiot somewhere won't take offence. Offence is never given, it can only be taken and there are loads of people out there (especially these days) intent on finding and taking offence from everything.

Asia's face when BJ started dancing like he was riding a horse at the very beginning sent me. I literally had to use my inhaler.

This all happened because there was some quicksand where they already had the railroad built...

There were so many Hollywood executives that wanted the movie edited and for good reason. But it wouldn’t have been the classic it’s become. Respect to Mel for sticking to his guns

My parents saw this w/ some other neighborhood parents when I was bitty. After that .. they’d all quote one-liners from this movie. Us kids never got the joke until we were older and rented it 😂 THX’s epic movie, great reaction! ♥️ y’all

Mel Brooks consulted Richard Pryor to validate the movie would be taken as comedy/spoof and not offensive.
