They had a vague general idea of the burster scene, they just didn't know how much 'blood' was going to be used - especially Veronica (Lambert) who got a huge face full.

Fun fact with this movie, when the alien busted out of the chest, none of the cast members knew that was going to happen. so that was a genuine reaction from all the actors.

I was actually sitting with my jaw hanging open and saying aloud to the screen, "It's a horror film" and then I laughed! Alien is Halloween set in space. As you now realise! A nerve shredding hair raising horror movie! And your reactions were perfect as that slowly dawned on you both! Tremendous fun watching you find that out!
