I think the show could be way better! Reki Kawahara was a beginner at writing when he started SAO and it shows. Season 2 is coming out in a few months and will fully adapt the story/manga so he can follow it as it airs. It's also a comfy & comedic non-isekai fantasy show that gradually builds into a masterpiece. Honestly the party dynamic is very similar to Frieren with more comedy than drama. It'd probably also be a great show to watch on stream (at least the first half) in case he needs a break from One Piece. Not to mention the fantastic music between the OSTs, sound design, and OP/EDs! Even Gigguk considers the show as one of the best shows of 2024, only behind DanDaDan
