I mean. I did a side by side comparison with one pace and the original like idk 2 years ago or somthin, and while it does get ride of so much of toei's ANNOYING pacing issues. It also gets rid of some set up/build up, several interactions and jokes that "weren't in the manga". and some cuts can be a bit bad

I feel like this arc is pretty obviously one of the weakest ones in OP

I don’t think it was going to try and be as big as Marineford. The story beats I think are interesting, the lore that gets dropped is relevant. The characters introduced like the king, Shirahoshi, and the boshi brothers I like. The villain for his lack of reasoning for doing the stuff he did is what I think works. It shows a different side of the fishman racism that is the same as it is in real society. Taught hated. Hordy had never experienced hate from any human himself and had no real reason to, but was taught to just hate humans because that’s what Arlong taught him. Is Hody one of the best villains in the series? Absolutely not, but for what this arc is, he works. It’s like hating long ring king land because foxy wasn’t that interesting villain after a big arc like skypeia. That was the whole point of it. A more relaxed adventure to just have fun watching. But it still had room to have character growth.

It's definitly not the best arc, mainly because of bad villains, but the worldbuilding and setups for future are s tier. As much as i like watching most of Nicks reactions, im probably gonna drop his one piece reactions. All he did this arc was complain about it and compare it to the two best moments of one piece, being marineford and Gear 5. He's in for a big surprise if he thinks, this is the worst pacing, toei has to offer...

The story beats aren't that interesting, none of the Strawhats have any real conflict, Sanji is the worst he has ever been and the final fights all kind of turn into a single, unmemorable grand melee. It still has the OP charm but it lacks spice. The only thing that really sticks in my mind from a thematic point is Hody's "motivation"
