Please do not listen to the others about SAO being bad after half season one. In my opinion definitely the second half of SAO season 1 is not bad, but is worst than the first half. Second season is also good after. Or the people hate a lot or love a lot due to the change of worlds. Third season has two parts and I love them all. Of course SAO has some stuff that even tho I am a lover of SAO I think it is weird, but in general in my opinion is the best anime for me.

I feel like you misunderstood basically every point I made. I did watch a decent amount of Sao, up to having nearly finished season 3, especially about the stakes. I was talking from a narrative standpoint, the main reason Sao was so exciting was that feeling that this is a death game where anyone can die. the writer revisits this whole thing multiple times trying to introduce stakes, but it is completely null and void because the writer has already revealed that he has no intentions of any of the main cast dying. This is probably my main problem with the whole series, and maybe it's only been made obvious to me from having watched Sao abridged and understanding how it could've been done correctly, but you're right. I do only talk mostly about season 1, it's all I've really given thought. season two is an edgefest. seriously, Simon's portrayal of ptsd is so comedically done, with sometimes it existing and then sometimes her jumping off of skyscrapers and trickshotting a guy with a mini gun. Kirito can just import his stats from another game? that's ridiculous, he stays this invincible jesus like character who is the best at any game he plays, because the writer can't bare to give him a single character flaw. How is it that the most overpowered weapon in the entirety of GGO is not used? they give the excuse that it's too hard to get close, but it's obviously not? even deathgun doesn't carry one, he just had a regular metal sword iirc. I could go on about the whole kirito being god thing, how he beat a mini game that had never been beaten before, the genderbend fanservice stuff, the absolute objectification of sinon, someone who could've been an interesting and strong character before she was reduced to another person to just fall for kirito. the two winners shit was bs too, how they both won is ridiculous, and the problematic rape scene at the end is the icing on the cake. of course our lord and saviour has to come and save the poor defenseless girl that we've been spending a whole season strengthening. can I also say, KIRITO HAVING A PAD WHERE HE GOT INJECTED IS RIDICULOUSLY PLOT ARMOR-Y EVEN FOR SAO. from memory, these were my problems with GGO. one sec

SAO is one of those watches where the common opinion of certain parts can be determined by veterans. Season 1's first half is really iconic, so much that it had this little rewrite/revisiting called "Progressive". But everything is set up very well here I feel, it could end up being your favorite the entire way through. The second half still has good moments! Though it usually gets bashed, this is definitely one of SAO's lowest points. Which is good because things get better from here! And don't get me wrong I still enjoyed the good parts, there were just some that we didn't. And just couldn't... one scene in particular I remember drove a reaction channel to put up a "rage meter" for a particular episode. Can't be spoilery though, only vague- I can say both "unfortunately it was bound to happen" and "enduring this will be so worth it when you get to the later parts". Season 2's first half puts a little spin on things debatably for the better, it has a place in my heart for nostalgia and the opening "Ignite" being such a banger. There's a character introduced that was enjoyable to me personally, and they could end up a possible favorite of yours in my opinion. Something from Season 1 sets itself up again to become relevant again much later but a certain scene gave me chills. It's kinda part of a dark plot point and I know you like that stuff, I just can't get into details but it was one of my favorite aspects of the entire series (Season 1's second half tackles this too sometimes and that's why I'm not AS hard on it). Season 2's second half starts with a side story adaptation so it may come off as filler or out of nowhere but it has some nice character moments, if Season 1's second half doesn't end up as your least favorite then this arc will probably be. Still it follows up with some of the better writing in the entire series, and it's VERY important for some who say a certain character fell off after Season 1. An entire arc dedicated to giving them their shine, where another lovable character for me is introduced. After this comes the movie "Ordinal Scale" which should definitely be watched! Trust, a moment in Season 4 will not make sense without it. Season 3 is what some can consider "contained", introduces elements that redefine everything moving forward. We call these last 2 seasons "Alicization", and it's where debatably the peak of SAO really begins. LiSA's back for the opening here too! It's a story stretch that you might grow comfy with but there is a certain element to Season 1's second half that unfortunately makes a return once or twice. On the bright side that element from Season 2 I really liked comes back even harder, I just know if you end up enjoying Season 3 then 4 is bound to be even better! But I just get really nostalgic for it, I'm sure many do. And there's not an insane amount of SAO reactions out there either despite how iconic it was. I'm really glad it started out the most promising for you, though! So I really do hope you enjoy what you can!

MAJOR SPOILERS for the whole show If I'm being honest, it's weird but you people are exaggerating. Kirito thought it was weird and did not engage once he was sure she liked him, then it's quickly forgotten about in the grand scheme of things. By that point he was with Asuna anyway, and the show never teases the idea of him doing anything because it's weird. It's a younger cousin having a crush and getting denied. Season 2 and 3 barely feature her, and it's abundantly clear by then that he's with Asuna and isn't doing anything with anyone else. The arc isn't "about incest", it's about saving Asuna, and the other shit is a sideplot that's resolved in 1 or 2 episodes. It's also clear you're talking from a perspective of someone who only knows about the problems with of S1, or at least didn't pay attention in S2. Many of your complaints are addressed, like Asuna's character (although I don't think it was ruined to begin with), and 2 of the movies are about the skipped floors if anyone cares that much. You said the Saichi incident doesn't develop Kirito, but he literally avoids people until meeting Asuna again. You said there are no stakes, while Season 2 has a guy running around in real life and poisoning people to death, and in Season 3 Kirito is poisoned and put into a coma. Yui is NOT the only main cast character who dies. Asuna is the protagonist of S2 part 2, and her deuteragonist dies. The deuteragonist of S3 does too. I will say that the amount of rape is definitely a problem, but some of your complaints about it aren't even present in S2, S3, or the movies. I don't even like SAO S1 part 2 or S2, but your problems with it and the series as a whole are blown out of proportion.

Cause so many people seem to think the sao hate is just for no reason, I'll just explain how I feel here. Spoilers I watched SAO a long time ago at first, and I loved it as a gamer for all the same reasons. I obsessed with gun gale online for a while, and I was about 11 ish years old. shit went hard, got me into animation. Now, I can look back and realize it's flaws. things like horrible pacing (skipping dozens of floors and months, to slowing down for some fishing arc), horrible treatment of the female cast (rape, objectification, zero personality traits) nonexistent male cast (every male character is a bad guy except for klein, who is treated horribly despite being the only one with a slight personality, and that one dude from alicization) incest (nuff said), lack of an interesting main character, the story starts off interesting with a good premise, but once it loses it's momentum it definitely burns and dies once it throws with its execution. I liked asuna as a character in arc one, but arc two completely destroyed her as a character. Also, they ended the whole fucking thing early?? like, 25 floors early?? The whole show is named after this first game, why not just make the first game like 3 seasons long? Kirito is insufferable, he has no personality or flaws. To compare it to abridged, kirito has trauma from the sachi incident, which sticks with him through the whole arc, and redefines his whole character. In sao normal, it really doesn't do much. I guess it explains why he's a solo player, but it's just bullshit, because sachi is a tool to move the plot forward. "She has no outstanding character traits except for the ones that make her die sadder." from explanation point. There are also LITERALLY no stakes in this show. Yui, the only main cast character who dies, is PROMISED to be revived, and the most interesting thing about this show is that it felt like anyone could die, but from a narrative standpoint, at that moment, all stakes are killed, because OBVIOUSLY reki is unwilling to kill off any of the cast. And going back to the rape, how much rape is there?? I stopped watching, but I'm aware it doesn't stop after season 2. The villains are insufferable. The amount of villains that's prime goal is just to rape the girls so that the knight in shining armor can save them is the most incel shit i've ever seen, and it's almost comical the way these scenes are directed too. Almost feeling like fanservice rather than something we're supposed to be disgusted at. The amount of plot holes are insane too, like, for example, KIRITO HAD ACCESS TO THE FUCKING ADMIN CONSOLE WHEN SAVING YUI, HE COULDVE REACTIVATED THE LOGOUT BUTTON GLOBALLY????? I don't know, man. the amount of actual bullshit in this show lol

Who added eminence in shadow to the pool. It is one of my favorite anime of all time but the first episode has practically nothing to do with the rest of the show until season 2 finale. Even the trash isekai have better first episodes. From what I've seen it takes most reactors half a season to really understand what the show is about and start appreciating the comedy and genius of it all. It is a very poor choice for a first episode reaction in my opinion
