Yeah but how much shit do people get worked into a tizzy about that makes sense but they've ascribed current day morals onto? How many people get mad at isekais when a medieval-eque culture has slavery and argues the MC should go on a warpath to free all slaves, even if it would make them an enemy to that entire world, because "slavery is wrong". I could completely understand if the author wanted to skip over that issue entirely and not have to deal with people thinking with their feelings on the matter. However, Yashona's point makes sense to me too, to not have to be bothered worrying about Senku's mother.

I can never see episodes with flashbacks of Byakuya without crying or getting teary-eyed. Byakuya's Senku's adoptive parent, and they don't really get into it much because it doesn't matter. But yeah it means no one in the village is related to him. I also wonder what happened to the couple that left on the boat....I guess they capsized or got killed by an animal. So sad.

The point isn't that it's literally incestuous, but that it would still be weird to a lot people, even if it's generations apart. Easier to just add "not by blood". Hence why they bring it up when Kohaku is blushing and talking about being potentially related. Japan isn't a single entity, other Japanese shows having it doesn't mean anything, some Jump titles stay away from certain topics.

Even if it was just for the plot so that there’s no question of incest I really like that Senku is adopted. It’s not something you see portrayed very often and I like that there no question that they’re still family even if they aren’t related by blood. I can imagine it must be pretty encouraging/inspiring for people watching who are adopted as well!

I think what happened is the character design of Byakuya was to look like Senku (like a biological father) But the author may have realized that it would be weird if Kohaku and Senku are related that directly (even though its separated by thousands of years) so the author may have added that nugget in to patch that problem, like hey, Senku is actually adopted! I don't know if that makes sense, and I also don't know if the author intended for Senku to be with Kohaku or anyone in the story for that matter, but that is just what I assumed.

As some people have said, Senku is adopted. Pretty sure the reason they're not blood related is because it's a shounen anime and the mangaka's editor probably told him to add that so that Senku can have love interests without the incest undertones. Not a big deal though, you can clearly tell that Senku has been raised by Byakuya and inherited his spirit. Amazing episodes!
