As someone who also grew up in an abusive household I ended up realizing a lot after reaching adulthood about the way previous experiences actually affect people and lead them the wrong path. As someone who was physically abused by one of my parents I fully understand the way you feel. I resented that person and hated even the slightest idea of letting that go, until I started to notice unethical behaviors from myself and related to said parent more, realizing how it’s all just a cycle of hatred passed down through generations of sick people batteling their own traumas and being unable to handle them. That is why I actually sympathize with Endeavor probably way more than any other character in the show. And, knowing other people who dealt with the abuse themselves, I actually really enjoy the way MHA portrayed it in the series. There always will be Fuyumis, who are capable of letting go and giving a chance for redemption in order to achieve a better future. There will always be Natsuos, who resent the abuser and don’t want anything to do with them. And none of these are wrong, people just tend to cope with trauma in different ways. Just like you are against forgiving abusers I tend to sympathize with their stories more just because I knew a person who went down that path because of their own horrible childhood and trauma, and I genuinely feel horrible for those people too even though they hurt me a lot in the past. I understand, that they were in the same situation as me, but were unable to cope with it properly. I like how kids don’t just automatically forgive him, he actually has to face consequences of his actions. Natsuo will never forgive him, Touya also never will. Endeavors life is honestly kinda hellish, and IMO, realizing that your actions lead to your kids hating you plus a birth of one of the most dangerous villains is kinda “losing everything” in itself, it’s not like he’s chilling on a beach drinking wine right now. But I really like how this show portrays his arc letting everyone decide on their own if they want to forgive him or not, just like his kids do. It just feels so well made to me.

@Tigerclaw I'm up to date with the anime. I deeply appreciate MHA as a piece of media, and enjoy the Todoroki plot. But my personal feelings about abusers don't leave a lot of room for compromise. In the real world, abusers will do just about anything to avoid reckoning with their own darkness. They will construct their own fantasy realities where they weren't absolute scum of the earth terrible people to avoid the psychological agony of acknowledging the pain they caused to the people they ostensibly "care" for. I'm honestly not even convinced that redemption is possible for most abusers. Most of the time, the best thing that other people can do is completely and permanently remove them from their lives. Redemption for someone who beat their own children, like Endeavor did, would have to be something on the scale of a lifetime of atonement. Child abuse is, in my opinion, one of the greatest sins imaginable. @Kleed44 I don't think I'm quite as critical of MHA for its handling of this as you are. I just know going into things about the conservative nature of Japanese society, so I didn't have high hopes or expectations. I view works in the context they are created, so even just featuring a character like Endeavor and having him be such a tragic and flawed character was already leaps and bounds ahead of what most other media is doing, even outside of a purely JP context (based on my limited consumption).

@Mator I actually feel the exact same way, and I've read the whole manga and seen the whole show so far. It bothers me that it feels like he never faces true consequences, and I don't count common events that happen to most heroes like injuries to count as redemption for all the shit he did (I won't spoil anything specific). I was disappointed how I felt like this show had such potential to address abuse, but it kinda dropped the ball with Endeavor's "atonement" in my personal opinion, but people are free to feel how they want of course

Ranking my seasons: Season 7 (even season is unfinished, it’s already far surpassed) Season 6 (really great overall season with dope highlights) Season 4 (Overhaul and endeavour carried it, but Gentleman and La Brava was great too) Season 3 (Loved the My Hero episode of Deku standing after defeating muscular. Then Bakugo rescue and Afo vs Ofa fight was amazing, whole season was tension packed) Season 5 is TIED with Season 3. (No spoilers, a scene comes on here which is the start of something extraordinary, and then second half with other types of people were just pure amazing storytelling) Season 2 (Todoroki vs Deku plotline carried entire tournament arc, stain arc was great, Deku and Bakugo vs all might was nice to see too.) Season 1 is an amazing entrance to the series, and the entrance exam arc then also the entire USJ invasion by the league of villains was incredible. Last in ranking does not actually mean the worst, it’s just compared to the others.

For me it's very close to season 1. It sets up a lot of super important stuff for later on and it develops characters in a nice way, but I found myself on the edge of my seat less for 5 than for 1. I have enjoyed every season though and you are certainly in for a treat!

2x20 all might explains the origin of one for all and how it relates to all for one. i suggest watching it again because the way all might tells it is so much cooler, but in quick summary: when quirks first appeared, society fell into chaos and all for one took advantage of that as shown in this ep where he made people indebted to him/follow him. his brother was sick and quirkless but had a strong sense of justice and opposed his brother's motives. all for one gave him a "stockpiling" quirk that essentially allows for the wielder to stack quirks, which multiplies the power of the quirks he wields. turned out his brother actually DID have a quirk, and it was the power to pass on his quirk to other people, which could only be used if he had a quirk to pass on. so those quirks combined and formed One For All.

I think a big part about Endeavor's words is also that it's establishing his understanding of his wrongdoings - he wants to work to be a better person, but understands that there's a difference between atonement and forgiveness.

Someone might've mentioned it, but AFO's brother getting OFA was explained by All Might at the time he told Izuku about AFO! his brother had a "useless" quirk to pass on quirks, which made him seem quirkless - however, when AFO gave him a stockpiling quirk, the two quirks mixed together and became OFA. :~)

Endeavor's redemption arc is absolutely wonderful. He's an amazing character with some very serious flaws but I think he is definitely redeemable. I'm excited for you to get to see more of the Todoroki story line, I think you'll really enjoy it! As for Endeavor vs All Might - honestly, I couldn't pick 😂I love characters for their flaws and faults just as much as I do for their virtues - the two of them are equally as good as each other imo. If I had to pick another pro hero I loved though, it'd definitely be Eraserhead / Mr. Aizawa, hands down!

Not necessarily. Its not like OFAwas passed down from old people to young people all the time. For example (hypothetical. Not true numbers) the 30 year old 2. User could give the power 2 years after he aquired it to the 30 year old 3rd user because he was injured and dying. In the times where AFO was active, there was a war like state where a lot of people died and all might was the only one who hsd it for so long therefore the passing between 9 people could be just 60 years or so

i can't really order the seasons by best to worst because all of them at least have 1 episode that blows me away lol. But I will say, the 3rd and 6th are probably at the top for me currently. I won't judge 7/8 yet until they're fully done. As for "little brother" in the vision, you kept saying he was one of the one for all users, yes he was. But he was also the first - like Deku pointed out when he first saw him.

(Best to Worst IMO) 1. Season 6 (Both arcs blew me away. There was not a single episode or storyline that felt meh to me; lots of things come together, and there's a definite shift in the tone - Nick will love that it gets darker) 2. Season 7 (so far it's fantastic but hasn't blown me away like season 6 did, but I have read the manga, so it's very possible it could overtake 6; Season 8 as well) 3. Season 3 (the Training Camp arc is probably my favorite arc of all because the stakes finally felt real, and those three episodes (I don't think I need to explain which ones) live in my head rent free; I think this is where I really got endeared to the characters) 4. Season 5 (as others said, it's really just a buildup for season 6; the first half feels stale, but second half makes up for this - the story is front and center, and it's really rich) 5. Season 4 (Overhaul arc is amazing and so is the festival performance, but I don't feel like the main characters themselves interact much, which loses points for me) 6. Season 1 (as an introductory season this is solid and concise) 7. Season 2 (this one just drags on for me in all 3 arcs, but the arcs themselves are good)

Honestly, season five is overhated, mostly by manga readers. They removed some things they shouldn’t have, and from like, episode 15-20 of the season, the animation isn’t great. However, this season from episode 4-10 has some good animation, and the arc is actually important to virtually every character. If you go into the season expecting anything like the Overhaul raid arc, then you will be disappointed. However from episodes 20-25, things are incredible (despite some things that are removed from the manga, but won’t bother you much if you don’t read it).

AFO thought his brother was quirkless, but his quirk was being able to pass his quirk on to another. AFO gave him a power stockpiling quirk that mixed with the younger brother’s quirk and that became OFA. It was explained around the beginning of season 2 so it is understandable that people might have forgotten. And I’m pretty sure they haven’t mentioned Toya until now, but I think in one of Toderoki’s flashbacks they show the back of his head for a split second.

hopefully this aint a spoiler but one of the reasons s5 gets so much hate is cuz of the way the arcs and some scenes were re ordered from the manga some arcs were swapped around to promote the 3rd mha movie

My favorite season is 6 and 7 so far is up there in the top for me. I can't really rank the other seasons since each season since there will usually be 1 arc out of each season that I'm not as fond of as the others. I definitely enjoy Endeavor more as a character than All Might. Just because his story is more interesting to me. When we meet All Might, he is already the number 1 hero and has been for years and his power is so overwhelming that the other heroes can't even compete. I like an overpowered character when we see them start from nothing and rise up to be super strong by the end which is why I enjoy Deku so much. From the small bits of All Might's past we did see, I just didn't find it as intriguing as Endeavor and his family's story.

Also S5 isn't "bad", but there were a lot of things fumbled when it released. -A long odd break between episode releases followed by an immediate filler episode once it returned from the break screwed with the pacing/hype. -The weird decision to flip the 1st and 2nd arcs around (which led to spoilers in regards to the 2nd arc being revealed early and thus ruining some of the reveal/tension.) -The 2nd arc skipping some large plot points and overall feeling rushed.(This was considered one of the best arcs in the manga by many). This was compounded by the fact that there were MULTIPLE filler episodes this season that could have been better spent on the 2nd arc instead. - Overall the quality of the animation didn't feel quite as polished as other seasons at times. Censoring some parts of the anime vs manga frustrated many. (I don't personally mind it too much, but it was a complaint.) I don't think it's a bad season personally but it is one of the weaker ones when you compare it to the others. A few minor tweaks and it could have been much better, but like most MHA, it's overhated.

Season 5(It's not as bad as people think, although manga version of what happened in season 5 is better. But the last episodes saves this season for me) 5. Season 2 6. Season 1

Bakugos growth as a character is so great. From an asshole confused bully who couldn't deal with his feelings, to still an asshole, but one that's better with his feelings and has a healthy rivalry with deku.

I understand why people can't forgive endeavor, it can be a very personal thing to deal with. But as some who grew up with an abusive parent I do think people can change and learn. I forgave my mom a couple years after I moved out. We both talked about what happened and why. I still have nightmares about being a kid again and my mom being abusive, but I'm glad we were able to grow together and reconcile

Season 5 struggled a lot towards the middle to end of its production due to the majority occurring during the PEAK of Covid causing the production to collapse a bit. But I think despite the hit it did to the pacing, Season 5 has some great moments and episodes.

I truly dont think that season 5 causes MHA to fall off; I think that the pacing DURING RELEASE caused it to be received negatively, but as of rewatching seasons 4, 5, and 6 on a binge rather than a weekly release, I found myself enjoying them far more. I absolutely LOVED seeing your reaction to the 2nd movie, and am stoked for you to experience the rest of the show :) hope you enjoy it!
