No matter how many times I watch ep 13, it always make me feel sad. I really came to like Shirley, and her dying while saying how much she loves Lelouch is heartbreaking.

Which is why she seems lost in thought in the bath when word of Lelouch asking out multiple girls on dates got around. It also explains why she decided to hold "cupid day" as a last-ditch attempt to have Lelouch for herself. She even had several clubs hunt for Lelouch's hat.

He wants to be the only one by his side, and if Nunnally returns he's scared Lelouch wont want him anymore (and he's right lmao), so his reaction here isn't that surprising but poor Shirley didn't deserve any of that
