2023-04-27 04:13:35 +0000 UTCMy favorite thing about hunter x hunter is that, while I’m sure it would still be amazing if it was your first time watching any anime, it’s even better if you’ve watched a lot of shonen anime and are used to the common tropes. Even the character designs of a lot of side characters are reminiscent of Pokémon or Dragon Ball Z characters. Tagashi is such a master of his craft that he knows all the tropes and expertly subverts them nearly every time. You think the stubborn kid isn’t admitting defeat because of his pride? No, he just wants to see his dad. You think you’re gonna watch an awesome fighting tournament? No, the main character gets knocked out and you learn about it through flashbacks. You think that the main character is going to want to test his strength at the testing gate? No he doesn’t want to be tested and instead tries everything including a phone call before he’s forced to do the typical shonen training montage. You think the main character would want to fight his way to the top of the Arena to become a floor master? Naw, they don’t care about anything except training enough to punch one dude in the face. You think the knock off Majin Buu character will put up a good fight? No he basically gets taken out with 2 punches. There are more to come but I won’t spoil.

It ain't that hard if you pay attention to the dialogue and the way the characters' face is shown. Anime can be very expressive and dramatic at times where if you have enough experience you can guess a lot of what might happen...
