Islam emphasizes the relative worthlessness of our impermanent earthly lives in comparison to the eternal life that we will be granted in the afterlife. Allah tests his creations with suffering and the temptations of pleasure in order to see who will be rewarded with Paradise, and who will be punished with eternal torture in Hell. These tests can be viewed as trials that bind us to this world. However, for many the bonds of this world actually bring them heavenly pleasure, pleasure they wouldnโt deny themselves no matter the cost.
