What A Cartoon! - The March 2021 Schedule

Two whole months into 2021 and we at Talking Simpsons Network hope you're all hanging in there. We're doing alright ourselves, deep into recording a ton of podcasts for the month to come, including our next Patreon-exclusive miniseries, TalKing of the Hill Season 2 Part 1 (premiering March 26)! And we've got other cool surprises coming your way, including FIVE new What A Cartoon! podcasts for March. A pair of Kids' WB classics, two more early '90s favorites, AND a couple of the most critically celebrated animated shorts of the 1950s!

And if you're not yet a subscriber, don't forget that signing up at the $5 level will get you each of these What A Cartoon! podcasts a week ahead of time and ad-free, along with our collection of exclusive miniseries (like the now-unlocked monthly episodes of Talking Futurama) and over 100 bonus podcasts on top of that!

Here's what's on the schedule for March:

Freakazoid! - "Dexter's Date" [Patreon: 3/1/21 - Free Feed: 3/8/21]

We take our second look at Freakazoid, one of our favorites growing up. The cult show's second season was even more ridiculous and indulgent than before, including this episode feature four minutes of an exact parody of Hello, Dolly! Listen along to learn how Freakazoid went out with a bang.

You can find Freakazoid Season 2 DVDs and the streaming version on Amazon.

Eek! The Cat - "Great Balls of Fur" [Patreon: 3/8/21 - Free Feed: 3/15/21]

Koombayah! In case you missed our podcast interview with Bill Kopp, you should know that not only is he one of the first artists to work on The Simpsons, but he also created the early Fox Kids hit Eek! The Cat. We finally spend some time with the unlucky furball who says "it never hurts to help," and we explore the Elvis tribute episode from its first season, "Great Balls of Fur!:

Eek! The Cat is annoyingly unavailable via official streaming or physical media, but this episode is currently on YouTube.

Batman Beyond - "Black Out" [Patreon: 3/15/21 - Free Feed: 3/22/21]

We've covered so much of the DCAU, but not its cyberpunk future in Batman Beyond, which changes this month. We go into the history of how Bruce Timm and friends took a bad executive mandate and turned it into a fun high school hero romp for all ages. We cover one of the show's earliest episodes, so get in the mood for some retro-future!

Batman Beyond is currently streaming on HBOMax.

"Gerald McBoing Boing" and "Rooty Toot Toot" [Patreon: 3/22/21 - Free Feed: 3/29/21]

A Patron Pick sends me and Bob into the golden age of US animation with a pair of UPA classics. Gerald McBoing Boing set a new standard for limited animation via a Dr. Seuss adaptation, and Rooty Toot Toot showed that jazz and murder could also fit in the world of cartoons. Learn all about those shorts AND the Hollywood blacklist that changed animation forever post-war!

Gerald McBoing Boing and Rooty Toot Toot are both on YouTube.

An Extended Preview of What A Cartoon Movie for DuckTales the Movie: Treasure of the Lost Lamp [Patreon: 3/29/21 - Free Feed: 4/5/21]

Shabooie! As chosen by our most recent patron poll, this month's premium movie podcast returns to Disney TV adaptations, and we're going with the first one! In 1990 Disney put their hit DuckTales series on the big screen with lots of sand, an offensive stereotype or two, and a very late '80s genie played rather flamboyantly. See how well it holds up alongside us!

DuckTales The Movie is currently streaming on Disney+.

And remember: $5 patrons and folks on the free feed will hear an extended preview of the podcast, but if you want the whole thing (and access to all other episodes of What A Cartoon Movie) you'll have to bump your subscription up to the $10 level.

A packed month with a new episode of What A Cartoon! coming your way five Mondays in a row this March. And remember, if you're a patron, you'll get to hear these early, along with monthly episodes of Talking Futurama, and TalKing of the Hill Season 2 Part 1 when it debuts on March 26. Hang in there, and look forward to another month of great podcasts!

Gimme Dat Batman Beyond!

I can't believe how ahead of it's time Freakazoid was! Family Guy loves to shut down it's whole show for an indulgent, jokeless musical number and Freakazoid had it beaten by like a decade. Looking forward to all of these!

Matt Bixler! Hello!

Wow, I just started watching Batman Beyond, too. Excellent picks for this month. I look forward to them all

The Freakazoid episode’s gonna be a DELIGHT as someone who’s somehow seen both it and Hello Dolly. I couldn’t believe just how on-point that parody was.

Batman Beyond is legit.

Oh boy! Looking forward to Batman Beyond!!
