Good overview of the messiest episode of an already messy franchise. Also, your talk about the early days of anime distribution made me want show off this promo that an Japanese distribution company put out for American media companies. In another world, Buublgum Crisis might've been better known as Futurescape. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qqQdG8j5DZA

There's a lot of "subtlety" in the show that is really not made clear, among them being that Sylia (not Sylvia) might be a Boomer. I'm not sure if this stuff was meant to be explored later and they ran out of money, or if it's just poor delivery. As for the lack of OVA quality fan service and violence, it seems like they saved a lot of that for the spinoff AD Police Files. That show went a lot more extreme and dark. The first episode is about a suicidal robocop whose creator sexually assaults him while he's charging. And like Henry, I also watched Streets of Fire for the first time recently, and BGC totally rips off the opening. Both of those songs are so good though. The first 15 minutes of Streets of Fire is amazing. Unfortunately, the rest of it just doesn't live up to it. The Warriors is a much better Walter Hill movie.
