What A Cartoon! - The November 2020 Schedule

Fall is screeching to a halt and the holiday season is dawning, which means it's time once again to hide under some coats and hope that somehow everything will work out. And while you're under there, you can keep yourself busy with five new episodes of What A Cartoon! during a month that's absolutely stuffed with Mondays! First, we'll kick off November with two beloved Cartoon Network shows that straddled the '90s and the '00, then go cross the pond to the UK for a stop-motion adaptation of a classic that's now become a classic itself. Finally, we'll bring this month to a close with a revisit to a seminal series for '90s anime fans, followed by our standard extra-long episode of What A Cartoon Movie.

And if you're not a subscriber, signing up at the $5 level will get you each episode a week ahead of time and ad-free, along with our collection of exclusive miniseries (like the recently launched Talking Futurama Season 2 Part 2) and over 100 bonus podcasts on top of that!

Here's what's on the schedule for November:

Ed, Edd n Eddy - "Brother Can You Spare an Ed? / The Day the Ed Stood Still" [Patreon: 11/2/20 - Free Feed: 11/9/20]

November starts off with our look at the Cartoon Network series that stars a mischievous, multicolored trio of schemers with a debilitating jawbreaker addiction, Ed, Edd n Eddy! How did a cartoon creator from the effed-up era of Liquid Television end up getting his own kids' cartoon in the late '90s—especially after making The Brothers Grunt? Listen in as we answer this question and gush about the show's surprisingly gorgeous animation.

Ed, Edd n  Eddy is currently not available on any streaming services, but you can buy individual episodes/seasons on Amazon.

Courage the Cowardly Dog - "Everyone Wants to Direct / Remembrance of Courage Past" [Patreon: 11/9/20 - Free Feed: 11/16/20]

It's time for some good, old-fashioned nightmare fuel with our deep dive into a show that scared Millennials stupid with its spooky plots and creepy monsters! Listen in as we explore just how John R. Dilworth's Oscar-nominated short became a 52-episode series that stays compelling despite rarely deviating from its "something disturbing shows up at the front door" premise.

Courage the Cowardly Dog can currently be streamed on Boomerang.

The Wind in the Willows - "The Piper at the Gates of Dawn" [Patreon: 11/16/20 - Free Feed: 11/23/20]

We leave the world of traditional animation in mid-November to visit a stop-motion classic that stays truer to the source material than Disney's adaptation: Cosgrove Hall's version of The Wind in the Willows. This episode full of absolutely charming characters adds up to a cozy, sleepy outing, despite the fact that it revolves around a missing child. Plus, the trippy ending will surprise you—unless you already read the book. In any case, look forward to our full treatment of one of the rare stop-motion television series!

This episode of The Wind in the Willows is currently available on YouTube.

Bubblegum Crisis - "Tinsel City Rhapsody" [Patreon: 11/23/20 - Free Feed: 11/30/20]

We covered the final episode of Bubblegum Crisis with special guest Jeremy Parish back in August of 2019, and thanks to a patron request, this month we'll be tackling the very first episode! If you cut your teeth on anime during the Clinton years, you no doubt remember Bubblegum Crisis as an all-time classic—and if you didn't, let us '90s anime dorks explain why we love this iconic series so much.

Bubblegum Crisis is currently streaming on VRV and other platforms.

An Extended Preview of What A Cartoon Movie for Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit [Patreon: 11/30/20 - Free Feed: 12/7/20]

Unsurprisingly, the winner of our Aardman poll for November's episode What A Cartoon Movie ended up being the first (and only) feature film starring the beloved Wallace and Gromit. When Aardman started making feature films in the 2000s, a vehicle starring their famous man-and-dog pair seemed inevitable, though they honed their skills on Chicken Run before turning to the characters that put them on the map and won them Oscar gold. It's a charming, perfectly executed animated film, and one that'll get you in the mood for vegetables after a holiday full of starches and salty meats.

And remember: $5 patrons and folks on the free feed will hear an extended preview of the podcast, but if you want the whole thing (and access to all other episodes of What A Cartoon Movie) you'll have to bump your subscription up to the $10 level.

We've got quite a month of great episodes ahead of us, and with a new episode of Talking Futurama every Friday until the end of the year, $5 and up subscribers will get to listen to three new podcasts a week! As always, thanks so much for your support and look forward to even more fun next month, along with some holiday surprises!

We did two specials last year but Charlie Brown WILL return! - Bob

Talking Simpsons

I was hoping you guys would do Charlie Brown Thanksgiving this month. I loved the last two times you guys did Peanuts specials.

Matt

Thanks for the suggestion, but the schedule for Talking Simpsons and the miniseries should be self-evident so we prefer to only post a schedule for WAC.

Bob Mackey

Have you guys ever considered doing an Everything Schedule, including the miniseries and Talking Simpsons? It would be helpful to have something to refer to, in order to make the watchlists easier. Just a thought! Thanks for all you guys do.
