I, too, almost choked reading this & fortunately had just finished taking a drink otherwise there might have been mojito coming out my nose as well. Pretty sure Iโve had this exact dialogue IRL & at different times even gone with the โjust cheapโ reason although also usually accompanied by a silent thought of โand I just donโt like youโ but mostly itโs an incredulous โbecause life is effing expensive!โ. Unlike me, my MC somehow had the cash. Heโs very fiscally responsible. Go figure lol. Fiffer is so me in so many waysโฆ โค๏ธโ๐ฉน
