As to whole "retcon" argument. I'm sad to break it to you, but this is a meaningless buzzword argument. Tons of great literature, from classics and modern best, have what you would call "retcons" by certain definitions of the word, and nobody with media literacy considers them what constitutes bad writing by it's mere self. Frankly, in court of public opinions, what would make it "bad writing" (subjectively), is if said recontextualization of past information would break the laws set in the story - but in this case it doesn't. Not only is it built off of actual foreshadowing, connections thematically, symbolically (solar system's iconography) and even mechanically (devil fruit awakenings), it also goes off of deliberately open-ended magic system and in-universe-logic. Oda set up devil fruits themselves as a mystery, we don't know the origins of them, how they exactly work, while showcasing to us time and again how "weird and ambiguous" operating powers are. Why do dinosaur fruits let you slingshot your head as if it was rubber? Why does Sugar powers have fairy-tale elements built in to it (like kids don't aging if they play with toys being direct power this fruit gives, among many others). Why does Kaku's giraffe can turn into cubes? And so forth. It's as if imagination and belief of what a fruit can do, changes the way it directly operates. Obviously this ALSO always applied to Luffy. That said fruit can do more stuff now is consistent, and doesn't break previously established logic. Calling it a buzzword doesn't make it "bad and illogical writing". Absolutely nobody cares if it's a retcon or not, by certain definitions, unless it actually breaks in-universe logic. Nor is anyone who thinks this is an amazing story development a "brainwashed cult member".

Because I can even see that Luffy actually ate the human human fruit makes gear 2 - 4 actually make sense. Because just being rubber would not allow him to do that nonsense. Then if people put the pieces together that luffy is nika due to all the symbolism surrounding the sun luffy had, that’s called good and logical writing, not giving away the twist. At the latest he should have introduced nika as a god during fishman island, where we learn about the SUN pirates and its captain who frees slaves. So many logical points in the story to introduce Nika but instead he does it right before luffy becomes Nika. Only troglodytes such as yourself would just nod along and notice nothing wrong.

Nika is just the name of the Sun God, who was talked about in Skypiea - arc steeped in religious and scientific themes. Not to mention that Oda clearly is using Solar System's celestial bodies as iconography, since Alabasta. Even some passing comment about a Nika fruit would have been connected by the fans - I literally don't see any point to doing so. Oda stated in the interviews, that since many people are scouring One Piece and collectively trying to predict everything, that he is super careful with what information he inserts - that's why's he so good at still surprising a collective theory crafting community that is obsessive. And that's why he almost never gives much information about the biggest mysteries in One Piece, usually involving Void Century - that doesn't mean he made it up when the information dropped, or couple chapters before - that's logic of a child.

I swear people don't read the story. They just want hype moments and dumbed down media. My parter started reading OP this year and at Skypea she predicted Luffy being a god. Further down the story she was convinced. She's not even done with dressrosa. There are many things to complain about in OP like weird perverted characters and all the weird shit with sexually herrasing women, deaths, fake outs and the lack of deaths are two of the big ones for me. Hell even in this arc with Kinemon and his body, THAT was an ass pull. That is a perfect example of an ass pull. Came absolutely out of nowhere, made zero sense. But Luffy being a god, and the devil fruit being more than we thought, that's no ass pull and was written masterfully. Creativity has always been a part of luffy's character and the way it's done is amazing.

But he worked on Henry Thurlow's episode - 1066, the Law, Kid vs BM, on one cut near the end. That episode in general had many western animators. 2024-09-09 19:28:04 +0000 UTCI've been so excited for you guys to see this for so long and I have a lot to say 😭 Luffy was literally dead and his heartbeat started back up as the Drums of Liberation 🥁🥁🥁 It was done so well with the OST. Sanji's observation haki is on point as always. I love Gear 5. It's exactly what I expected from the manga. It's literally rubber hose animation, which is so fitting for someone who has been depicted as a "rubber man" this whole time. To me, it breaks the concept of what traditional anime power ups are. Instead of becoming extra serious and showing Luffy as this "badass main character with super strong punches", he's goofy, laughing, joking, maniacal, and somewhat creepy. He can defy laws of physics and do anything just like a cartoon (Luffy Toons). I love that his awakened ability doesn't just affect his surroundings, but the people he touches as well. He turned Kaido into a whole cartoon lol that's an Emporer he's throwing around like that 😂 Oda said in an interview he didn't want Gear 5 to be super serious since he believes battle mangas have too many expectations for that, and he isn't a fan of it. He never wanted OP to be serious like that and knew he'd be taking a big risk since some fans may dislike this form. But Luffy IS Joyboy and it brings you joy when you see it. IMO it's a great concept and what sets it apart from others. The foreshadowing of Gear 5 goes way back to Skypiea or even earlier (which is crazy in real time since Skypiea began in 2002 in the manga/2003 in the anime). We've seen so many people reference the Sun God, pray to him, and thank him, including the Giants. And there are a lot of references to the sun in general (Thousand Sunny, Sogeking's mask, to name a couple). Luffy ate a mythical Zoan fruit and he is the "Sun God Nika" 🌞 the Elder Stars also said Zoan fruits have a will of their own... you know that's going to be important going forward
