Not sure how you want to handle that, maybe just mute or skip past the title card entirely if you can. Maybe somebody on discord can give them timestamps, that might be the best option I feel like Drunken Kaido is a good time to address the nature of Oda’s influence and the most base level of power systems in one piece. Oda clearly takes much of his inspiration from western literature and animation. From Gulliver’s travels, to brothers Grimm fairy tales and their Disney iterations, and most of all Looney Tunes and western cartoons at large, owing to the slapstick nature of their physical comedy, and outright quoting them at a 1:1, like brulee and luffy’s mistaken identity exchange near the end of WCI. It gives the story a very unique sort of “east meets west” aesthetic that not many other anime capture, and allows this sense of cartoonish levity to meld seamlessly with hyper-dramatic anime tropes, like power escalation, and talking being a free action (anime time). But at a deeper level it also dictates the core functionality of the most basic power system. Devil fruits (especially pre-skip) largely operate on the concept of toon force. If you’re unfamiliar, toon force is the idea that Donald Duck soloes Goku. Donald is incapable of being in any real danger, while Goku has died multiple times, but can and does still attack people. This effectively turns him into an immortal entity who will only ever grow angrier. In a war of attrition, Goku loses. This is applied to one piece in a variety of ways. For example, Luffy’s rubber nature is often played for laughs, but it also effectively makes him immune to bullet damage (one of the most dangerous things in the story by your guys’ own admission). So when you see Kaido, a normally very imposing and hyper-dramatic character, suddenly getting silly and slapstick, it’s less a flaw in his character, and more one piece doing what it does best, and embracing the wacky, cartoonish nature of its inspirations. It also makes him wholly unpredictable and hard to lock in on, like Luffy says. Besides, it’s rather more interesting, don’t you think? I mean, how many times can you watch shonen characters get angry and punch each other over how many decades? At a certain point there has to be some innovation and subversion, surely? Hell, Kaido said it himself in this very episode. “It’s not entertaining. Make it more creative.” Almost feels like Oda speaking vicariously to the industry, really
