This Was Tough - One Piece Ep 808 Reaction

Comments

After rewatching the series serveral times Whole Cake really shows you a lot of little details about Sanji as a character and how little self worth he has for his life and how self sacrificing he is to be useful to the people he loves. From always being there for Ussop bc he understands him the most. Telling Ussop that he has worth, cheering him on always. To telling Zoro (during Nothing happened) that unlike him (Zoro), he is (Sanji) is replaceable so he should be the one to die instead. Both Zoro and Sanji are self sacrificing to a fault but for different reasons so much that they have a mutual respect and brotherhood as the wings of the pirate king.

I'm pretty sure Sanji was using haki. That's why he told Luffy to defend himself with it. Sure he might get scorched by the flames a little, but Luffy is immune to blunt-force attacks like that.

I agree with your interpretation, I also still think it’s character development on Luffy for understanding the situation without being given all of the information. From the outside looking in Luffy could have fought Sanji back like he did isopods. Even though his battle with usopp had a different principle, Luffy was going through it because he had to put hands on one of his own. So I see it as him not wanting to experience that pain again too.

In my opinion, this wasn't like the Usopp fight at all. The only similarity is that it's a rare example of a straw hat attacking a straw hat; That's why they're different, Usopp vs Luffy was an equal duel boiling down to the unspoken hierarchy of the Straw Hat pirates. Usopp wanted Marry and demanded he win it from the captain in a duel. This was just Sanji trying to push Luffy away, and Luffy seeing through it. Again, this is just my interpretation, maybe it's not that deep xD.

The Pebble

Big character development for Luffy, especially if we are comparing his 1v1 against usopp to this.

The fact that Sanji's pupils were rarely shown full this whole time shows how impactful this was to him - we usually only see pupils like that when characters are very damaged or not fully there mentally.. Sanji was going through it yo, that's my guy! This episode elevated him as well as Luffy as characters for me massively when I first seen it. Nami seeing this is even wilder, that's basically our second crewmate, though she didn't officially join at the time..

Zelos

IMO, the duel was a battle of wills between Sanji & Luffy. Luffy never loses a battle of wills. Man's confident Sanji will be feeling those words of his and will come back to him.

DourSun

I'm not a big Sanji fan at all - but sheesh this one hurt. Luffy def can't become the King without Sanji.

Preet

The mention of nami walking backwards cause she doesn't trust sanji is why you guys are the goatsπŸ”₯
