The dodgeball game they're playing is with Japanese rules, which is more akin to volleyball, where the team with the ball is on offense and the other team is on defense. There's only one ball, and if you catch it, you're now on offense; the thrower isn't out. The other interesting twist in Japanese rules is that you're not actually sitting out when you're hit. Instead, there's an infield court and an outfield around the court, and when you're "out", you move to the sidelines around the other team's side of the court. Players in the outfield can still catch the ball and throw it, and if they hit someone, they get to go back into the infield. The kid with the grey hair that threw the ball at Billy from behind saying "Take this!" was one of Anya's outfield teammates trying to tag Billy, and Anya tripped while trying to dodge the ball being thrown by one of Billy's outfielders (each team starts the game with three outfielders). That's also why by the end there were so many players on Billy's side of the court; the ones standing outside the court are from Anya's team, including Becky and Damian.
