I took it more like that: even if nobody harms you directly (killed your mom, friend or something similar) the environment you grow up with still has that much impact on your education and how you become who you are. And the fact that everyone can be the environment of somebody else, shows how important your behaviour towards other people is. I think that is what Oda tried to say with Hordyβs cycle of hate. Protect the kids and keep them out of the forest.

One of the reveals that although itβs not the strongest, shakes me to my core everytimeππΎ
Hody being a product of his environment, showing that heβs already a lost cause because he is EXACTLY what Queen Otohime and Fisher Tiger tried to prevent in their own different ways.
Arlong made it worse with his takeover of Cocoyashi Village but even then he hatred had limits and didnβt hurt his fellow fishman too! But Hody is the hatred at his most extreme level, to where it kills all races and people cause itβs been allowed to live for too long
As a black person, this whole arc hits so hard for me thatβs why itβll always be in my top 5π€ππΎ

gotcha, so it's more of a case of like, Hordy is exactly what the queen was afraid of, the younger generation growing up blindly accepting their hatred towards humans without question, and both her and the princes were just simply too late. it was so shocking for fuka cause his ideals are exactly as his mother's so it was like a realization of his failure. i'm watching the episodes for the first time with them so if its a spoiler i guess dont say but then all the heaven talk is just metaphorical then right? no actual divine intervention at play?

Robin getting physically involved in one of her attacks (instead of just using the limbs that sprout through her devil fruit) is very satisfying

Cycle of Hatred. It's real, and it's probably the worst thing about humanity

@aoblock already touched on it, but Hordy is the worst case scenario. To put it in perspective, Fisher Tiger was enslaved by the Celestial Dragons who are the worst humanity has to offer. He was branded and treated as less than a living being. Even with his hatred of humans, he freed every slave indiscriminately and even brought a human girl back to her village. Even when his act of kindness was a factor in his death, he didn't want his hate to pass on to the next generation. Even after all he's been through, he still supported Otohime's ideals. Now we have Hordy assassinated the same Queen that Fisher supported even when humans have not done anything to him. He's willing to kill his own people over empty hate. Not even Arlong was that spiteful. Otohime charged her children with carrying on her will, so for Fukaboshi to hear that Hordy is so extreme in his hatred without any grievance is shocking. He is the seed of everything Otohime feared and it's fighting to take root and spread deeper into the next generation.

yeah the point is there isnt a reason for the hate anymore, with dudes like arlong atleast there was some reason he hated humans but its gotten to the point that queen Otohime feared, when the hate is just hate and nothing else. I feel like anyone who doesnt understand the importance of that fact has missed the point of this whole arc.
