That was the whole point, he knew how Ace was (even though he hated him, he was just like Roger). This is exactly why I say Ace is overrated, he was just a character development tool for the MC.... He was originally supposed to die in Alabasta.

Nah man. As someone who, like Ace, is adopted you ain't let people talk like that. Obviously you know its dumb to get riled up but a part of you can't let it go. I've sunk myself in some shit because people ran their mouth off on the people who took me in. That def was a part I connected with when I watched this series. But yeah maaaan if only he could have walked away, things woulda been bittersweet but at least we would be living. Ya'll killing it with these reactions fr peak content!

Luffy been making it out of a lot of situations through sheer will power and grit-- its been a mounting struggle since Enies and I appreciate the difficulty levels finally catching up with the protagonist. Sib, I think Luffy on Sbaody was a little bit out of ignorance too. Once Kuma showed up and he knew he was outmatched he and the crew were trying to run. The stuff that Akainu was talking was crazy disrespectful. He played Ace, but I can’t really blame Ace either. Akainu was playin dirty from the start.

I remember the first time reading (when I got here in the manga): being fucking pissed at Ace Then after a bit of time I was like: well...actually, it's not like Akainu would have just stopped and stood still if Ace hadn't turned. He would have kept chasing them...something had to give. And then eventually, knowing the kind of person Ace was etc. it definitely made sense. Fun fact (and not really a spoiler because it is from the novels): Ben Beckmann didn't like Ace. He obviously met him when Ace came to visit Shanks. And he really didn't like him lol. Made sense from his pov. Ace wasn't flawless. The guy had issues.

The turning point of the series has finally dropped! When you think about it Akainu's words cut deep for a bigger reason for Ace. He was basically calling his father a piece of trash and glorifying his biological father, who Ace had grown up hearing nothing but trash about. He set to the seas to surpass the image of his bio father and while doing that found a real father in Whitebeard. The man changed his perspective on everything in life AND just saved him again and you're gonna disrespect him like that like it's nothing? Nah Ace could stand for that and most of the Whitebeard pirates couldn't either. Sad it had to go this way tho :(

Aint gonna lie. Ace had to die for me, cause all them fake deaths had me feeling a way in terms of consistency in what we're told about this world and what we see. We out on these dangerous seas that take lives, fighting a gov that is corrupt at the top and wants us dead, pirates that be pillaging, killing, and toppling kingdoms for fun, but we always ok!? From the beginning Mihawk was like "you need to learn how much bigger the world is than you" but its always happily ever after. Sabaody and Marineford made up for it in my mind, L after L. Luffy can get a dub the next 10 arcs, I'll be cool with it.

Man I wanna think I'd be better than that and maybe I would because of the bigger picture but he was talking MAD DISRESPECTFUL. Luffy aint any different honestly, look what happened on Shabaody even tho that clearly went downhill. These boys just made to where they can't tolerate that shit talking if it's about something important to them. Next ep gonna be hard to process, the goodbye from Ace to Whitebeard was already bringing that emotion out.
