If he admires Garp and owes him a lot then why would he purposely try to kill Luffy when Akainu was going to anyway? If anything, he should want for any other marine officer to kill Luffy but himself.

"🤓 it was confirmed by Oda himself that *insert complete lie*" The fact that Crocodile went from being put down by a PRE GEAR LUFFY, to swapping hands with Doflamingo makes this more believable I guess.
