Whoever did these subtitles shouldn't have translated okama as queer, I understand there's no direct translation so they picked the closest word they can think of but it completely changes the tone and the meaning. They should have just did what the official subs did and kept it as okama and not translated the word at all. Changing, "Okama Way" to "Oh Come My Way" also completely changes the meaning its a cute pun but it also sucks.

Oda has shown us one of the most badass character, bon clay, and made him a trans. You cant have more respect for gay/queer or whatever people like he does. i couldnt care less if some random pirate in an anime is a little harsh lol. Sorry for my bad english im german.

academically, they are called queer studies, and it's a commonly used self-descriptor, one that i myself use. but some people understandably have some bad memories associated with it. that being said, seeing a guy be repeatedly refered to as 'that queer' over his name by other people does ring a little harsh lol

Doesn't bother me either, but the community is divided on the word being good or bad too. It is what it is, I think the fact that the characters aren't jokes and are actually well developed and impressive in the story makes all the difference but that's just my opinion.

Bon Clay has a specific way of talking... idk what you call it but it's that "cutesy" voice that you'd usually hear from Hostesses and Gyarus in anime. (Idk if they talk like that irl tho) The moment Hanyabal started speakin like that I knew it was Bon lmao

Since you were wondering whether Queer was a good or bad word: LGBT is actually just a shortened version of what's meant to be LGBTQ+ Have a guess what the Q in LGBTQ+ stands for :D

it aint necessarily a good word but it ain't the worst thing to say. lgbt ppl are divided mostly on how bon clay, the okama kingdom(place where sanji is) people and future characters are portrayed. some think its extremely distasteful and disrespectful, some like it, some are in the middle. i personally don't care but I can see how ppl would be upset at it

okama is a special word in Japanese that is between crossdresser and drag queen. Seems the sub decided to just use queer.
