Man that 'Say you want to live/I want to live' with the musical cue? Always a tear jerker.
The emotional payout after seeing Robin always play her cards close to the chest, staying secretive and mysterious from day one just trying to survive--to finally cracking under the weight of all this pain and helplessness to ask simply to be with her friends is everything.
EDIT: Hus we gotta box lmao I posted this before the discussion at the end--the SLANDER, sir. The SLANDER.

So many incredible moments in this ep! Realising the true weight of Robins predicament. Luffy stepping up as a captain. Sogeking/Ussop earning penance. The whole crew proving their unwavering loyalty to eachother. Robin breaking through her trauma and accepting her nakama.

Hus, Aokiji is literally ice.
Nothing Saul could have even tried would have done anything to him.
If Saul took a swing, boom, frozen.
Plus Saul was trying to get Robin off the island safely.
The only option is to run.
There's also another reason that you'll find out later on.
When we see Aokiji in the flashback, he's super uptight, irritable, high-tension, yelling at his crew and shit.
We we see Aokiji in Water 7 with the strawhats, he's laid back, indecisive, and kinda lazy.
It's pretty clear that Ohara changed him.
As mentioned before, you'll find out why later on.
Relevant to this, there's a scene in Strong World Episode 0 that will clue you in on this even further.
Bottom line, Saul died with a smile on his face. That's Will Of D right there.

One of the greatest Moments in Manga/Anime. Period. The way this whole backstory was orchestrated, Sauls last Words to Robin, Luffys unbreakable Determination and his reading of Peoples Hearts "SAY YOU WANT TO LIVE!" , the Light emitted by the Straw Hats in Robins Eyes and then the final Outburst with "I want to live".
This is a Masterpiece right there Eichiro Oda.

Hus, that was a bad match up for Saul. Giant strength don't matter if your frozen. Like how electricity don't work on Luffy because he's rubber.

Kudos to Heatah for standing up for a real one. Saul was a gotdang Vice-Admiral! Tossing battleships like footballs. Also a couple others have said it but Kuzan is his real name. Aokiji just means βBlue Pheasantβ itβs a Japanese mythology thing

Theres no throwing hands with Aokiji at this point either. Mans is entirely ice, one punch would've still lead to being entirely frozen. Chances are, Aokiji was just drawing it out cause Saul was a friend, he said he respected Sau'ls decision and convictions but he can't just up and leave him behind

This episode is basically showing the aftermath of One Piece's version of a nukeβa super sad episode. I can watch it plenty of times and still feel the impact. They even removed the normally played music during the intermission to convey the devastation.

Obviously one of the most famous scenes in One Piece, great every time I see or read it. One note about the small cut of Zoro unsheathing and then resheathing his sword near the end (this wasn't shown in the manga): this is thought to be a practice from Feudal Japan known as ιζ (kinchou). Two swordsmen would clank their blades or hilts together to signify that a pledge or oath has been made and must be upheld (women would clank mirrors together). Since Zoro can't really reach Robin in the moment and she isn't a swordsman, Zoro improvised by clashing his hilt against his scabbard, declaring his oath to bring Robin back safely. Also props to Sogeking for not hesitating a second in shooting through the World Govt flag.

bro Hus tripping, Saul was a goat. Vice Admiral that realized the corruption and evil of the world government, couldn't stand it, got Olivia out of jail and went against a buster call for Robin to survive, the only person that can read the poneglyphs. My guy was hella influential, just cause Aokiji's a literal monster dont mean Saul's any less

nothing in that trash English dub was delivered better than these Japanese voice actors. let them continue to be real anime fans and let them watch the show as it was meant to be in peace. not a translated version, that's like someone watching avengers endgame and saying oh Tony stark says "I am iron man better in dutch"

not all the way through the video but i'm sure you figured out the basics of kuzan = aokiji but just as a one piece nerd i have to make it clear:
kuzan is aokiji's real name and "aokiji" is the code name given to him when he became an admiral. all three admirals have a real name and codename. aokiji's code name means "blue pheasant"
