It's whatever. It gets the point across, maybe not the most accurately, but it's better imo than something like "crew", which carries some incorrect implications sometimes as well. I would honestly love for nakama to be translated as either crew/friend/whatever, depending on the context of the line.

I hate the subtitles sometimes... Everyone gets the wrong idea of what happened when Chopper went to give care to Usopp, it says "Friends" when in that instance it is actually crew or gang.
