At the start, Gon was considered "the light" by Killua and was very optimistic. Meanwhile, Mereum came out the womb killing anyone without remorse. Mereum was considered a monster. Then by the end of the arc, Gon was shrouded in darkness while transforming into a monster himself. While Mereum literally became "the light" as he was more human-like and merciful than ever.
