It's radiation poisoning. Having been exposed to nuclear bomb Meruem absorbed insane amounts of nuclear fallout from the bomb and became radioactive himself. Thus not only him but everyone around him have been exposed to huge amounts of radiation ever since nuke detonated. Thats why Pouf and Yupi are damaged because they were so close to him for relatively long duration since they rescued him. FYI
