A Daisy Emergency - Update
Added 2025-08-07 02:14:30 +0000 UTCUpdate! -
She had her surgery, and we have her back home. They said everything went great and saw no reason for her to go back to the overnight vet. They sent home some pain killers and antibiotics, and now we wait a couple of weeks to take her back to have the staples removed.
As long as she has her appetite again tomorrow, she should be in the clear for a smooth recovery (pending Chomp being a brat!).
Thank you to everyone that has donated or spread the word or left kind words for us. It helps us tremendously, and alleviated a lot of stress.

Yesterday afternoon, Daisy started acting strange. She wouldn't eat her lunch and looked kinda miserable. I thought it might just be an upset stomach or the like (she had diarrhea and threw up a couple of times), cause it's happened before while she's in heat. I figured it would pass, but as the night progressed, nothing improved.

Come this morning, she still wasn't eating and was acting pitiful. She was drinking water and hadn't thrown up in a while, but something was clearly wrong.
All the nearby vets were either closed or not taking walk-ins, so we didn't have much choice other than to go to an emergency vet.
They did blood work and x-rays and determined it was an infection with her low white blood cell count, fever and the discharge she was having. With that diagnosis, and her not eating, they said it was best for her to go to a 24-hour clinic for an IV for fluids and antibiotics.

So, right now, she's at the 24-hour getting treated. On top of that, they said she'll need an emergency pyometra surgery to help clear out the infection and aid her recovery. If they did the procedure, it would cost me about $5000 from their estimate. They gave me another emergency place to check that specializes in surgeries, and it'll cost around $1500 there.
Between the visits today ($1000 for one and $2500 for the other) and then surgery she'll need, we're looking at about $5000 total for everything (probably more if she has to stay at the vet after surgery).
This is the first night in a good 6-7 years where I've not had her at home with me during the evening, and it's taking a toll on me right now. Chomp's never been without her for more than a couple of hours for a regular vet visit, and he seems awfully confused.
Normally, I'd not ask for help like this, but this isn't something I could really plan for, and we need some assistance. I don't expect the full goal to be met, but every little bit helps.

I don't like asking for donations either, so other ways you can help is through buying merch or subbing to my patreon (if you aren't already!). Please, don't feel obligated to either. One way or another, we'll manage.
