Hurricane Helene
Added 2024-09-25 16:42:43 +0000 UTCUpdate:
Despite being at the outermost squall line at the height of the storm on Thursday night / Friday morning the power only flickered a few times, but otherwise managed to stay on. For the most part, unlike our neighbors to the west and northwest, we only got tropical storm force winds...I think the highest gust here was around 80mph / 128kmh.
All in all, Helene gave me a 5-day weekend....and shit-ton of little tree branches to pick up.
Again, thanks to all of the many, many well-wishers! :D
Side note: I don't know if this is a credit to their delivery folks or Amazon just not giving a shit about their employees, but one of them made a delivery late Thursday night...in the driving wind and rain. I talked to a Kroger (groceries) delivery guy that same afternoon who said they were suspending deliveries (I was his last for the day) until Saturday morning. The company I work for started sending folks home on Wednesday. So, yeah...I'm leaning more towards Amazon not giving a shit about its people.

Update:
Well, it’s officially hurricane season in the Pt2 household…
I’m on my second bloody mary. :D
Otherwise, nothing to report…and thanks to all of the well-wishers.

Ah yes, another year another hurricane. Peat, repeat, lather, rinse, and pick up some tree limbs. From what I’m seeing, the storm will most likely pass to the west of central Florida and make landfall somewhere to the north and west of here on Thursday. This far inland, the worst we should get is tropical storm force winds early Thursday morning and throughout the day.
Barring any prolonged power or internet outages, I’ve already scheduled Friday and Saturday’s posts…and may preemptively schedule Monday’s as well.
Internet and cell outages, I can’t do anything about. Power and (more importantly) air conditioning…I had a whole-house generator installed some years ago.
This ain’t my first rodeo.
