Third Person POV
Egghead.
...
...
Luffy was standing in front of the robot that had practically ended the battle in Egghead, while Vegapunk was on it with a safety rope, some panels in its structure open, checking its condition and studying it now that it was still powered on.
Luffy was very interested in this robot and was questioning Vegapunk about its origin and the Haki that was somehow able to send the Gorosei back to wherever they had been summoned fromâor in other words, how the Haki somehow reversed the effects of Saturn's akuma no mi when he brought the other four Gorosei through those pentagram circles, and the possession of Imu in Saint Venus.
"I don't know where Haki originated from, but it certainly doesn't belong to anyone from this era," Vegapunk began to say loudly to Luffy below, as Shirahoshi appeared beside Luffy and wrapped her arms around his neck.
"He said this robot belongs to the Void Century, right? Somehow, it appeared in Mary Geoise 200 years ago... Do you think this Haki belongs to the robot or to someone else?" Shirahoshi asked, intrigued, as she looked at Luffy.
Luffy didn't look at the mermaid, unbothered by her closeness, and stared into the robotâs eyes, glowing blue.
He seemed thoughtful.
"It's very likely it belongs to someone else, Shira. And by the level of power, it's beyond people of this era. That means it came from the past. But how can a body store Haki?" Luffy thought, murmuring. But then he remembered something importantâsomething that fit very well with this.
"The Poneglyphs..." Shirahoshi also seemed to think the same thing, before commenting to Luffy, who nodded at the thought.
"Exactly, Shira. The Poneglyphs are unbreakable because of the Haki embedded in them, which lasts for centuries. Why couldn't they hold other forms of Haki, and have the Haki itself explode out when the time comes?" he revealed.
His words seemed to catch Vegapunkâs ear even from a distance. He looked at Luffy, stunned. "Youâve given me a great idea, Monkey D. Luffy! Haki can be implemented into Poneglyphs...? Thatâs why theyâre indestructible!" Vegapunk began to exclaim, excited.
"It's my theory. After all, nothing should be indestructible. I myself have the flame of chaos, which consumes matter. It would be impossible for anything to withstand those flames. However, Haki works differently. My theory is that the Poneglyphs are created and then a base of Haki is embedded into them, which lasts for centuries. The same thing with the Haki fired by the robot. Maybe someone left it there to be used at the exact right moment. Now, I donât know if the person was a seer who knew this would happen, or if they just did it as a precaution." Luffy began to explain, and Vegapunk quickly started jotting down some notes.
Vegapunk began to murmur as he scribbled, trembling, and as soon as he finished, he looked at Luffy with a sparkle in his eyes.
"This is fantastic! The possibilities through this theory... So that must really be why the Poneglyphs are indestructible! Leave it to me, Iâll start recording this and studying it!!" Vegapunk began to exclaim, excited by the theory, while Luffy imagined he mightâve already seen this before.
Then it caught him off guard, as Vegapunk started throwing out various theories and information, even calling over the other satellites who were approaching after the doctorâs call.
"Anyway, the robot is losing energy, isnât it?" Luffy asked.
"Yes. I still donât know how it was reactivated, since itâs been dormant ever since it appeared," Vegapunk commented.
"You think it could be Luffy?" Luffy asked. After all, the robot had been looking directly at Lucy in her Nika transformation. The robot had ignored Luffy and Imu the moment it appeared. On top of that, it had been following Lucy wherever she went since the battle ended.
Which made Luffy leave her near the robot, since it could destroy even more of the already devastated city with its weight and size, moving further into the streets.
Luffy was far too interested in the robot. He certainly wanted to study it, which was good now that they were heading into his territory. Heâd look into it later.
It had been two days. The news had already spread across the world. In the end, he couldnât imagine how people would react to his actions.
He had done something no one else had done in this era â and was never reported in past eras. Assuming the Government hadnât already hidden information about someone doing something similar. But killing a Gorosei was something unique. And Luffy took it upon himself to be the first to do such a thing for the whole world.
Obviously, the Government had no choice but to blame the two deaths on Luffy.
His bounty didnât increase much, but it rose enough to match his fatherâs level, earning him the title of âdemonic family,â as father and son were now compared as the worst criminals in the world.
"Hey, Luffy!" While Luffy was still talking with Vegapunk and Shirahoshi was still clinging to his back, Lucy appeared, looking at the robot that was staring at her the moment she stepped in front of it.
She waved cheerfully at it. "Hello, Mr. Robot," she said to the machine.
"Lucy." Luffy greeted his sister.
"Brother! Look at this, itâs Ace! Ace is here!" she exclaimed to him.
"A newspaper?" Luffy asked, seeing it in Lucyâs hand as she handed it over to him.
"Letâs see what weâve got here," he said, taking it.
"Check the next pages, Luffy! Ace is in the newspaper!" she exclaimed.
Luffy raised an eyebrow as he looked at the front page talking about Morgans, who was being chased by the World Government and had to escape.
"Whereâs that idiot going now?" Luffy couldnât help but comment.
The next pages talked about Ace and the Whitebeard Pirates in the New World. He had taken over an old territory of Whitebeardâs by joining forces with some members of his former fleets â including the Ice Queen, who originally belonged to Whitebeardâs fleet.
They still used the same jolly roger as before, in honor of Newgate.
Luffy was satisfied that Ace was gaining power.
"Very good. I hope he's already at Emperor level when we meet again." He smiled.
"Hey, thatâs amazing, isnât it?" Lucy exclaimed, while Luffy nodded.
"Hey, how about we eat something?" Shirahoshi suddenly said.
"Iâd like to eat strawberries," she added.
Luffy figured it was her craving, since she was pregnant.
He was about to respond when he suddenly felt something coming from the middle of the island and turned to his partner, giving her a kiss on the forehead.
"I see... you're going to abandon your mermaid," Shirahoshi commented, pouting.
"Not necessarily," Luffy said, since Shirahoshi could tell he was about to make an excuse, and continued:
"How about you go ahead of me? Iâll join you later. I just want to talk to a certain someone who just woke up." He informed her.
"Yay, food!" Lucy exclaimed, even though she had already finished eating a lot.
"Stay with Shira, just donât try to leave this area. Iâll be back soon," he said as a farewell, then shot off toward the center of the island and landed on the deck of the Black Pearl.
The first person Luffy ran into was Lami, standing with arms crossed beside the deck, also staring at the ship, sensing what he had just felt.
"She looks okay... Are you going to talk to her?" Lami asked, looking at Luffy.
"Yes. I want to check on her condition. I donât want to run into that being again, suddenly possessing her," he said.
Thatâs why he didnât hesitate to prioritize this, even with his pregnant wife, because checking on the Tenryuubitoâs condition was far more serious.
"Alright," Lami nodded.
"Iâll stay here in case anything happens," she said, also aware of the gravity of the situation.
Luffy approached her and kissed her on the forehead, making her a bit embarrassed.
"What are you doing?" she grumbled, blushing.
"How are you?" Luffy ignored her complaints and asked, since she was also carrying his child.
"Iâm fine. You know Iâll always take care of myself." She said, looking away.
"I hope so. Take care of Reiju, donât let her go out smoking, alright?" he said.
"Sheâs doing that again?! Ugh... Leave it to me!" she grumbled, while Luffy said goodbye and entered the ship.
He opened the door and spotted the blonde on the bed, her body bandaged, already watching him as he entered through the doorway.
Luffy stared at her for a few seconds, his red eyes locking onto her golden ones.
"How are you?" he asked, as she furrowed her brow.
"What happened?" she asked cautiously.
She seemed very lost.
"What do you remember?" Luffy responded with a counter-question.
"I..." she began to murmur, not knowing what to say, looking at him more cautiously.
"I lost control of my body... I felt... her... she possessed me," she murmured, sounding shocked, as if she knew it was Imu but couldnât even say her name, though the fear in her voice was enough.
"It was Imu, right? Yeah. She possessed you. And you nearly died because of it," Luffy replied.
"She did this... How am I alive...?" Saint Venus seemed frightened.
"Iâll say this: she really gave me trouble, since she fought me from the moment she possessed you," Luffy said with a now relaxed tone.
"How are you alive?" the woman couldnât help but ask, stunned.
Luffy just clicked his tongue, laughing.
"You donât have any faith in me, girl? Iâm stronger than I look," he said.
"You... Thatâs funny. You fought her? How did you survive?" she still insisted.
Luffy sighed, looking a bit tired.
"Yeah, I fought her. And it wasnât an easy fight. I had to use all of my powers to gain an edge. It was ugly at first, I just got beaten without being able to do anything." He paused before continuing.
"But even so, she expected you to die. Your powers are very dangerous, and thanks to them, I managed to kill two Gorosei," Luffy replied with an arrogant smile.
"Youâre telling me you managed to defeat two Gorosei?" The girl was stunned, somewhat skeptical, though she didnât sense any lies in Luffyâs tone.
"Like I said... thanks to your powers. I used your sword to blow up Saturn. And before that, I managed to deflect a blow from Imu with my sword to strike Mars and decapitate him," he said, while she trembled as she looked at him.
"Youâre really shaken... Itâs a long story. Do you want to hear it from the beginning?" Luffy said.
She sat up beside him, still watching him cautiously, but nodded, a little lost in that moment.
Luffy just gave a small smile and began to tell her what had happened.
He also needed to know how her soul was now, if there was still any connection to Imu, or if there was any chance the World King could possess her again.
If she was free of it, heâd be gladâif not, heâd have to do something about her.
And Luffy seemed to care about this Tenryuubito at this moment.
