CHIHAYAFURU Season 2: Episode 10 FULL LENGTH Reaction!

Comments

I enjoyed this episode a lot and seeing Arata take responsibility was good - literally ANY content we get with him is good! Shinobu is PERSISTENT, that’s for sure, though, to get what she wants! I did enjoy the tenseness that facing this “smart” team brought in this episode - it was refreshing to see new struggles for our team. And yes, I love Chihaya’s internal monologues when she has them! I love she’s trying to figure out what she wants to do with her play style! And yesss, Chihaya gets pumped up and excited about the chance to see Arata and for her to show off to him - Taichi is definitely the one that’s insecure around Arata right now - thank you for saying that and the comment!

I had a few more thoughts about this episode since I was sort of in a rush when I made my previous thoughts. Knowing how much Arata and Shinobu has played each other in the past it cant be overlooked that Shinobu's motivation and improvement in karuta Im sure is somewhat because she wanted to beat Arata once they met again which is similar and different to Chihaya who wanted to reach Class A to be able to play in a match against Arata and Im sure beat him as well but mainly play in a match against him. However, as unnecessarily hard on himself as Taichi is this sort of does give credibility to his thoughts back at the start of season 1 that it would have been better if Arata had been in Tokyo to play against Chihaya for her growth. I think both Taichi and Arata are vital to Chihaya's growth and motivaton towards karuta because of their promise as children and their unique approaches to karuta and the same goes for Arata and Chihaya being vital for Taichi's growth and Chihaya and Taichi for Arata so I dont fully agree with Taichi but now that we've revealed this connection between Shinobu and Arata I see his point. Another detail in this episode that if I had a Taichi point system Id give him one point for is that during the match after Chihaya gets fired up because of Arata and Shinobu she remembers when she was freaking out after the fight with Tsutomu and Taichi tells her to remember to breathe which is when she exhales and inhales deeply it might have been season 1 Taichi but it shows that when Taichi steps up as a leader and karuta player it does leave a lasting impression on Chihaya so I wish he would leave all the angst and jealousy over one side and be the great guy leader and karuta player we know he can be. On that point just as much as Taichi needs to embrace his freak lol can you imagine if Chihaya knew the effect she had on Taichi this would be a different series if that was the case. I could just imagine how much Taichi would have melted and relaxed if Chihaya had said you know Taichi your advice to breathe helped me today in the match but thats wishful thinking on my part lol. We all saw how motivating it was for Taichi when Chihaya said she wanted to see him make Class A so that thought entered my mind. I made a point in another comment that the only person who would be able to call out Taichi other than Chihaya herself and Dr. Harada if he were present would have to pick up on the patterns that Taichi has been angsty with Chihaya twice in one day and while ideally they wouldnt have to necessarily but realizing its about Arata would help and the only person there to do that is Nishida and Kana the two people who were there on both occasions when Taichi got upset with Chihaya especially Nishida because he knows that Arata Taichi and Chihaya were old friends. Sumire wasnt there the first time it happened so from her perspective she's probably thinking that Taichi is upset because she is gossiping about the Queen and this Fukui person with Chihaya. The only problem in this theory I have about Nishida specifically calling out Taichi because of Arata is that neither Kana or Nishida heard when Chihaya and Taichi were discussing that Arata might be there but they did hear when Taichi said a bit too strongly that she needs to focus on the next round. I brought up this whole rant because I think it would be interesting if Nishida did pick up on why Taichi is behaving strangely because that would lead to an interesting conversation between the two. One of the first things we learn about Nishida is that similarly to Taichi both of them stopped playing karuta due to an inferiority complex to Arata. I always wondered if Nishida would feel that he wouldnt have much advice to give to Taichi because he was in the same boat once. Anyways this episode had me thinking alot of different things which I thought Id share.

This episode was so much fun! I loved seeing Arata being so serious and responsible, ready to take on his punishment for doing something he knows very well is not okay, despite the other boys bravely barging in and trying to sway the verdict in Aratas' favor. It was very commendable that he was sticking up for his wrongs, and I love that you can clearly see the effect thid little introduction has on the judges. But, of course, it is Shinobu who comes and pleads for his case, with all the bewilderment that brings. Having the kids from this school actually caring for Karuta was nice, and seeing Chihaya struggle with not being on the group that can memorize the cards was a little bit funny, after all the tenseness. Particulalrly, I loved that little moment when Chihaya sends flying 4 cards and wonders if this is the way she plays karuta. Of course that perfectly acceptable strategy - a strategy that we have seen Tsutomu use before and that I thought was brilliant for him, and yet it had her wondering, becauses she wants to play a clean, precise karuta, and in her moment of desperation to win she defaulted to an inprecise but easier method, and I love that she realized immediately that that is not the karuta she wants to play. Look, even I was telling Taichi to keep it to himself when he shuts Chihaya up at the end. Chihaya wouldn't get distracted, I don't think, but pumped up, HE is the one that gets distracted, and, in any case, that is a choice that she has every right to make.
