AGAIN, after SEVEN seasons, we are finally getting answers in this series and each new answer or reveal is so surprising but works so perfectly to build on the character work we've had so far.
If you didn't have a dry eye after this Reiko-focused episode? I don't blame you one bit. This was SUCH a good episode!

Thank you so much for the comment and kind words! This episode feels so important to see before going on a long hiatus, that’s for sure! And yessssss, I am so happy that we get an OVA after Episode 12 - huzzah! AND getting Tsuda in this? Ugh, my heart is full indeed. Soko was a wonderful character, especially with how important she is to this entire story! It really was sad to watch things go down the way it did, but I am glad Natsume does not seem to be headed in the same direction as his grandmother, for better and worse. And yes, Soranome was such a sweetheart of a yokai for trying to bridge their friendship. UGH, I really need to watch the dub after all this hahaha! Thank you and yes, I’m going to savor these weeks leading up to us being caught up with Natsume.

This is one of my absolute favourite episodes – especially as a Reiko-centric one! 🥰 Knowing what we know now, starting with the “wish we had an OVA!” 😆 and then going straight into an episode with Tsuda (yes, Soranome was voiced by Tsuda, you got it right!) - this was such a beautiful gift of an episode! I loved meeting Soko, she was wonderful. 🥰 And seeing that she was the origin of Reiko’s kind of coping mechanism/pattern was truly bittersweet. Excellent discussion around Reiko’s tendency to distance herself first, pre-emptively protecting herself. And it all links so well back to Natsume’s earlier tendency to assume the worst – Soko worked really hard to get close to Reiko, but unfortunately, at the very first sign of (even accidental) distance, Reiko sprinted away. It is so painful to watch because the pattern is so understandable, borne of trauma, but still somewhat unkind. Knowing Natsume managed to break himself out of that same pattern is so good. And Soranome made me cry, as well – the way he really wanted to bring those two together. There is an amazing dub line in this episode: “No amount of enthusiasm helped my voice reach her.” He really tried. 😭 Looking forward to next week! 💙
