*EXHUMED HEADPHONE WARNINGS*

I'm easily scared but let me tell you, this was not just a "horror movie" - it was a cultural experience as this movie delved into shamans, geomancers, hauntings, and allll sorts of spookiness that made for a bloody good time this Halloween! A quality scary movie that's worth the watch!

Thanks to patrons Sunspots and Plore for this festive commission that checked off all the boxes for spooky season!

Exhuma (2024): Movie FULL LENGTH Reaction! PATREON COMMISSION!

Comments

Thank you for the commission and for the comment and kind words! You and Floor had me NERVOUS with this commission but this was so much fun! Maybe y’all are breaking me into scary movies, haha! The LAYERS of this movie was insane - there’s so much to break down with this one! I’m glad it was a suspense/thriller moreso than a jumpscare movie! And yes, structure, sociopolitical commentary, history lessons, lore, it was all so fascinating! A BABY SEANCE INDEED, though! The atmosphere, even when traveling from place to place in this series was so well done and consistent! And with the “hidden horrors,” you have your mind making things so much scarier than they ever could be. The pacing was so gooood and I really enjoyed the acting as well! I felt so bad because when I got done with the discussion and started editing, I said out loud, “I FORGOT TO TALK ABOUT THEMES OF RESISTANCE!” XD They really are numerous throughout, especially with the history and between the family members of the Parks, with our main cast, etc. I really liked your discussion of Grandfather Park and the auntie in the comment here. Hahaha, and WOW, that is a great connection with the Star Wars shirt to inherited sin and generational trauma - the stars aligned indeed, didn’t they?! XD I’m glad that worked out! LONG LIVE THE CHICKEN! We’ve had so much chicken these last few months; not that I’m complaining! I’m so glad Floor got to join in on this one! Thank you both for the great commission - it was perfect for this month! All of the options this month were fantastic!

Loved the reaction and discussion! Perspective: The Movie. 😆 Thank you for taking a chance on this one, the reaction was an awesome ride! 🥰 I absolutely love all the layers in this film – it could absolutely be watched purely as a ghost/spirit story and I think this would work very well. But it is also definitely: suspense thriller with a very interesting structure, sociopolitical commentary, historical epic, occult folktale, struggle squad on a case, etcetc. Various moments I loved: “What is this?! A baby séance?!” 🤣 The suspense! Where even a bog standard table knife is ‘oh so dangerous’ How some extra Southern expressions came out like a comfort blanket 😆 Love the way they build atmosphere and how they filmed nature – just really beautiful to look at, as well That most of the ‘horror’ is hidden in reflections and barely lit – I think the film really understands the things we don’t need to see where our brain with supply everything needed for the scene to work Hwarim’s coat collection 🥰 He just wanted his sweetfish and melons, is that really so much to ask 😆 The attitude they always had with the spirits The most badass grandma – yes, I would have loved to see it, too. So I still headcanon that she threw hands. Agree with everything in your discussed regarding how expertly paced it was, it is not rushed but we get introduced to these characters in great depth through minimal dialogue. And I love the unfurling mystery of their introduction. All the actors were so amazing! But I am forever in love with Hwarim now. 🥰 Most of all – themes of resistance? 😆 Really complex and fascinating to me here. At its core it presents such an interesting take on the ‘sins of our forebearers’ coming to bear fruit and what it can take to confront this history. The folklore and rituals themselves, especially the attention and detail presented in the film, are themselves resistance because there were many attempts to outlaw and erase these. And I think the whole film works as an allegory – the digging up of a grave as necessary resistance against attempts to hide from complicated history. Grandfather Park who was exhumed was a collaborator. And most of all I found the auntie’s naivete so curious – she was so surprised the occupying force desecrated him in death after everything he’d ‘done’ for them. I think this film is a good reminder that supplication buys nothing from a fascist. There is a lot of fascinating and really insightful post-colonial writing out of Korea examining this kind of collective and generational trauma. So with All That, I have to say your Empire Strikes Back t-shirt was a profoundly perfect coincidence – lineage and ‘inherited’ sin, heroes confronting the failure of previous generations, etc. Amazing. 😆 Long live the chicken! 🥰 And thank you to Floor for joining this commission! Looking forward to next week! 💙

What a haunting movie! There’s some historical context I wasn’t expecting they’d draw upon. I loved that this was commissioned for October!! What a perfect choice for the spooky month. Honestly I thought maybe we’d get some jump scares but I was fine. Since as long as I can remember I’ve been a fan of the supernatural. So when I realized we were following a team of “shamans” I was immediately hooked. There’s definitely a lot to unravel and dissect for this one. And yes!! Exorcist vibes for sure. It reminded me of Mirage of Blaze quite a bit. This was fun. Thank you floor and sunspot for this awesome pick. 😊 Looking forward to next week. ❤️
