*SELF-DOUBTING HEADPHONE WARNINGS*

The Qualifiers are into the Semifinals and our crew is facing an opponent that is MUCH more dangerous than they at first seemed...and for good reason! With familiar faces showing up left and right, Taichi is face to face with his greatest challenger yet...not the competitor in front of him...but HIMSELF.

Y'all, this episode was AMAZING. And I have so much to say!

CHIHAYAFURU Season 2: Episode 4 FULL LENGTH Reaction!

Yeahhh, we love a Taichi-themed episode! Taichi gets SO in his head with the “bad luck” thing, and that is NOT an easy thing to shake once you’ve convinced yourself of it. And yes, he really needs to trust his teammates and just let himself get some focus! And I agree with you, I think it was smart of Harada to let Taichi realize the lesson for himself - and yesssss, he IS like Chihaya in that respect; that’s such a great note to make!! I do love how everyone worries about our sweet Taichi! I hope he keeps that in mind as well! I feel it’s realistic with Chihaya getting her perfect score sheet taken down, but also, like you said - it WAS Hiroshi’s student, at least! And HIROSHI AS A COACH. I LOVE IT. Look…that is a fair point - Hiroshi would be pestered about slacking by Chihaya but maybe Harada would welcome that! XD I’m here for it as a crack ship for sure! 😀Thank you for the comment!

See...I feel he has natural skills that are good for Karuta - like when he was acing memorizing - the show gives us at the start that Taichi actually has skills that COULD be useful in Karuta, but he doesn't believe in himself and ALSO has to work with those skills to hone them and that's hard to do if you don't have the conviction to believe that it will give you the rewards you are striving for. Anyway, that's my belief with his character based on what we've seen so far. :) YES, I agree that scene with Chihaya (who does not harbor romantic feelings for Taichi) caring for him - which could be just as good if Taichi would let it...definitely hitting the gut with unrequited feelings; I've been in Taichi's shoes, so I know all too well the feelings of that moment. And I feel for Sumire, who's in the same boat as him. Thanks for the comment!

A Taichi centered episode! I love those xD I know that I have mentioned this before, but through this whole episode I couldn't stop thinking about how Taichi gets so in his head and that's what brings out his seemingly "bad luck"; and I think Dr. Harada noticed the same thing. It wasn't until he forgot about everyone else and focused solely on himself that he was able to best a player that, though very skilled and talented on her own, was not on-par with the skills he has being honing for the las season. For a second there, I was a bit frustrated at Dr. Harada not telling Taichi what he meant outright, but then, I did consider that just speaking plainly does not always have the same effect than a revelation that you come to yourself, and Taichi is very much the type to need to be bludgeoned with the information by himself rather than have it handed to him for him to fully process it (a little like Chihaya, honestly). Seeing all the people that worry about Taichi through the episode was really nice, though, and I hope that he can cling to that knowledge as well. While we didn't get much of Chihaya, or anyone else really, in this episode, seeing that lost her perfect score trend stung a little bit for me. Not that I thought she would be able to keep it the farther she got in the tournament, but still. At least, she lost it to one of Hiroshi's students, and that feels better than her doing it against anyone else. Speaking of, seeing Hiroshi as a coach was such a nice surprise! I loved that so much. You know what? Chihaya and Hiroshi would be a really interesting pairing to see xD Though, considering the new information we got of Hiroshi being a bit of a karuta slacker I don't know if he would be able to keep up with Chihaya's insane drive and passion. But it's definitely in my crack shipping list now.

I think that when people say that Taichi isn't good at Karuta, they mean that he doesn't have a natural talent for it. The anime implies that he just works really hard at it. He secretly goes to tournaments, he goes to the Karuta society more often, he overthinks and puts more effort than others into the mental aspect. The scene with Chihaya reaching out to Taichi with her handkerchief is both heartwarming and also a gut punch because of the unspoken unrequited love he feels for her, and the feelings that Sumire has for Taichi.
