The Summer Hikaru Died: Episode 12 FULL LENGTH Reaction!

*OCEANSIDE HEADPHONE WARNINGS*

There's a lot of comments to discuss beforehand, but then, there's a LOT to talk about with this finale! Everything escalates: Tanaka closing in, Hikaru facing his fears of staying in the village, Yoshiki realizing said fears -- THE OCEAN CONFESSION -- it all escalates into an incredible scene and then they LEAVE US THERE?!

I mean, perfect place, but STILL. And now our watch begins. But it's going to be worth it. And we'll just have to watch a lot of good BL and the like in the meantime to pass the time while we wait! ;)

The Summer Hikaru Died: Episode 12 FULL LENGTH Reaction!

Comments

THANK YOU for the kind words and the comment and support - I am already missing this series so much! I agree, this episode was just *chef’s kiss* - Hikaru’s confession to Yoshiki that he loves him in a cosmic way - could it get more romantic?! As an ace-spectrum individual, that’s such a declaration! And I live for it! And yesss, the light and the monster motif flipped where Yoshiki felt himself like a demon/monster in the darkness…and OH WOW, I hadn’t thought of it that way, but YES - the family being the father’s and him NOT being there? Says a LOT to that notion. And yeah, Hikaru, you need to stay with Yoshiki at least…even if the two of them move together somewhere else! Thank you so much for the support and I’m so glad you joined me for the journey! I am going to be eagerly waiting for season 2!

I cannot tell you how much I am already flailing in the hiatus state until season 2! Ooohhhh, Interesting about the yonic imagery with the chest hole! Yeah, that’s intriguing. Ooohhh, and I really like that idea of Hikaru seeing himself in the snake! Yeah, I’m going to be REALLY intrigued to see if we get more with the snake or if it’s just as you said! Good food for thought, though! Thank you so much for joining me on the journey with Summer Hikaru Died - I will be ever waiting for Season 2!

IM GONNA REALLY MISS THIS SERIES AND HEARING YOUR THOUGHTS! This episode was everything i could've wanted and more. Hikaru's confession of love is SO GOOD - Yoshiki is his entire universe, his entire world, he loves him cosmically in a way beyond human limitation and It's just so beautiful. I love the imagery of Hikaru being bathed in light and Yoshiki covered in darkness, the flip of the monster being "saint-like" while Yoshiki is almost like a devil trying to drag him down into darkness 😭 I assume those relatives were on the paternal side, which is just additionally so sad that those kinds of ideas were what Yoshiki's father would've grown up surrounded by 😭😭 I am NOT okay with hikaru dodging the question if he would stay 😭😭😭😭 HIKARU STAY PUT thank you for covering this series! I loved this journey with you

Ahhh here we are at the end! I will miss this series - until season 2! Just a couple notes on imagery and symbolism I found interesting and on topic with your inner tube analysis- there is a surprising amount of yonic imagery in this series! Including the shape of Hikaru’s ‘chest hole.’ And I’ve found that to be a fascinating choice for a story primarily exploring a gay kid and aroace(?)monster. As for the snake on the beach, I had to think about that one for a while, but I settled on the interaction and reflection of red eyes as symbolizing Hikaru seeing himself in the snake. A snake is an obligate carnivore - it HAS to kill to exist. But is a snake evil? No, that’s just its nature. But because of its nature, it’s treated as something scary and gross and equated with evil. And someone’s nature being treated as scary and gross and ‘evil’ feels like solid encompassment of the overall themes of the series. Or maybe it wasn’t just symbolic imagery and it actually has deeper lore implications! I have no idea, but would love to find out haha! Thank you for this journey! I can’t wait to see more in season 2!! ^_^
