NATSUME YUUJINCHOU: The Movie (2018) FULL LENGTH Reaction!

*TRIPLE THREAT HEADPHONE WARNINGS*

I wasn't sure how a Natsume "movie" would go down, but this was so much fun and heartfelt! I will say - "herding cats" has never been cuter! Natsume and friends are involved in a multi-plot incident that has stakes, adorableness, and - as per usual - an emotional heart at the core of it all!

NATSUME YUUJINCHOU: The Movie (2018) FULL LENGTH Reaction!

Comments

Thank you so much for the kind words and comment! This was such a jam-packed episode of Natsume - in MOVIE form, no less! Ohhh, Mukuo! T-T Poor Natsume, indeed - he’s like, “I didn’t even know nor was competing with my grandmother, thank you.” The clumsiness of the family was really sweet, especially the yokai posing as Mukuo. LOOK. (You’re not wrong about the Roberto comparisons) but I will never understand why Sasada is kept around except to be “token other girl” when the mangaka let her go in literally the first season’s worth of manga – that was HOW many years ago? It’s still baffling to me! Taki is lucky (or Madara’s lucky) she was brainwashed for part of the movie, or they may never have gotten them back together. But yes, Tanuma is best boi, as always! These exorcists jumping to conclusions; what’s new, right? The way they tied in the memory altering was really well done, in my opinion! The tenderness of Yorie at the tree-shrine in silence? Nothing needed, indeed. That’s one of my favorite parts of the movie. The idea of grief “landing softly” is a really beautiful one. The Fujiwara’s “forgetting Natsume” is the scariest subplot so far. How dare they do that to us! Yes, this was such a great dose of Natsume and I’m excited for the “mini-movie” aka “Ova” out tomorrow! Thank you again for the comment and kind words!

Loved the reaction and discussion! An amazing mega-dose of Natsume! 🥰 Had to approach this one in two sittings ‘cause, as a rewatch, as soon as Mukuo appeared I started crying. 😂 Various things I loved: That ‘Reiko would never be captured so pathetically’ was savage from Monmonbo 😂 – poor Natsume The bell and the plum connecting Yorie with the Natsumes The cute clumsiness of the family That the whole friend group went to support Sasada! Speaking of, I think the last time a character got so much ribbing was probably Roberto – poor Sasada 😆 The shenanigans of all the yokai trying to merge the sproutlings Taki’s cuteness radar Madara going ‘we’ve had an awful experience’ like he’s leaving a bad customer service review 😆 Tanuma Bestest Boi, of course. 🥰 I love how they intertwined the stories and all the themes as came out in the discussion! And we got another example of Natsume getting the full emotional context of what was going on and an exorcist jumping to conclusions. But also the beautiful complexity: ‘stealing memories’ not as a deliberate action meant to harm but a natural consequence of Honokage’s existence and fate. Speaking of Yorie’s grief, I think this was portrayed with such tenderness. In the moment when she visited the tree-shrine, there were no explanations necessary. I’ve personally found grief to exist in multiple planes separately, e.g. in the brain/intellectually differently to in the body/physiologically, etc. So I welcome this idea that while she was with Mukuo, perhaps it gave a chance for the grief in her body to heal. Even though once this ‘Mukuo’ left it will be fresh, it was able to ‘land softly.’ Also, how universally terrifying that nightmare Natsume had was 😭 (of the Fujiwaras forgetting him). I think for all of the audience it is the worst thing imaginable in that moment. Very mean of them to put that in. This was amazing to revisit and the cuteness of the sproutlings was out of this world. 🥰 Cannot wait for next week! 💙
