DanDaDan Season 2: Episode 5 FULL LENGTH Reaction!

*SLEEPING OVER HEADPHONE WARNINGS*

The Evil Eye has bound itself to Jiji, and it is apparently NOT going to be easy separating them - what's a supernaturally inclined team of friends and family to do?!

This episode tries to answer that question, while meanwhile, Momo makes a daring move in getting closer to Okarun! I was living for the dramatic and comedic of this episode - but also SO intrigued where it's going to take us!

I really enjoyed this episode, too! I love the Found Family aspect of Momo’s “House” with her grandma and how they’re all tied together through their supernatural encounters but they’re wanting to play games and talking makeup - it’s so wholesome! I agree! But we can’t let the mannequins get it on when there are kids around - no potential supernatural sexual trauma on Seiko’s watch! I do appreciate that we don’t just “resolve” the issue with Evil Eye simply - there’s going to be more of a challenge with this aspect, so that’s good! I agree - I love that Mantisman and Chiquita are here to stay, it seems, and I love the reason as well. THE MOMO AND OKARUN HAND SCENEEEEEE Yes! “Escandalo!” I was swooning as you all saw! Poor Okarun, not knowing what to do! Momo is showing she likes him, though! AHH!! I can’t believe we’re seeing Momo this open about it this early! I’m all here for it, though! I honestly have come to love Aira with her returning and I’m happy she’s back! I love that she has conviction with her decision and that she also is growing closer in her friendship with Okarun and Momo because of it. OKAY THANK YOU - The goofball cover definitely feels shallow or superficial, especially when before and in this next week, he shows genuine vulnerability – I do feel that maybe the mangaka can’t fully decide what to do with his character or they’re making him super goofy to stand out? Maybe I’m too old for the humor, ahha, but I’ll try to be open minded and hopefully we get more nuance with him later on as we go! I know there are moments that have shown that and I hope that we get that develop further! Focused and kind-hearted Jiji, yes! Hopefully we get that back! And the Kito woman is maybe an alien?! Who knows!! And yeah, what was the point of feeding the worm for 200 years in that one place?! Wild times…I’m worried for her to be a threat in the future, so I GUESS WE’LL SEE! Hahaha! But yes, DanDaDan is a lot of fun and I am loving this season as much as Season 1 - there hasn’t been that episode that’s gripped me like Episode 7 of season 1, yet, though the 2nd got close but overall, the quality is just as good and the Momo/Okarun parts are even better than season 1, so here’s to it getting better, hopefully! Thank you for the comment and kind words!

I definitely will talk more about Jiji in Episode 6, if that helps, on what you talked about early in this comment. Thanks for the comment!

Gosh, this episode was SO GOOD! I had such a great time with it. The chaos that we get every time we get back to Momo's house is one of my favorite things ever, because it's so found family. You have this rack-tag group of people that have come together in the most unlikely ways but now are talking about make-up and video games, eating together and getting into each other's space in the most familiar of ways because they have being through so much together, and it all makes me so emotional. I adore Granny Seiko putting a curfew on Hanna, and not allowing Taro to meet her after 10 pm, because they might be married, they might be adults, they might not even be humans, but as long as she is living in her house she is one of her kids and she will take care of her as such, so a curfew she will have. One of the things I was most looking forward was to see what the deal with Jiji and Evil Eye was going to be, and while that whole thing is very much not being resolved yet, the way that it's so unique made me smile and grin so much. Sure, it's pretty much the same thing that happened to Okarun and Aira, but it's also so completely different, and that is so refreshing to see; to know that this show might do the same kind of things but it will always find new ways to do them. As throwaway as it might be, one of my favorite parts of this episode was getting to know why Mantisman is back on Earth... because I kept thinking, back in season 1, that there was no way that cow could survive in an alien planet, and I genuinely thought that it would never be addressed again and by the power of anime that cow would thrive; so it was SO NICE to see that, no, that cow couldn't survive in an alien planet, Mantisman's problem was not solved at all, and another solution was needed. Amazing attention to detail, I love it. That being said, my favorite moment of this episode was, of course, THAT WHOLE SCENE WITH MOMO AND OKARUN HOLDING HANDS IN THE CAR. My gosh, I was blushing and escandalized over it in the most delightful of ways. My heart was swooning, and I brought a hand to my chest because of *the scandal* of it all LOL. It was such a nice moment, though, to see that Momo is so open about the fact that, yeah, she likes Okarun, even if she never thought she would, and she wants to have a relationship with him. There's no moment where she feels indecesive, that wouldn't feel true to Momo's character who's ingenuity and decisive action has saved the day plenty of times; no, she realized she likes him, and is acting on it, even while being careful with his feelings and taking things slow. I'm just in love with this episode, in case that wasn't sufficiently clear before. I enjoyed so much to have Aira back. Seeing her struggle with her class, the fact that her actions last season actually have repercussions and aren't simply wiped out, is gratfying. I wish her classmates wouldn't alienate her for it, but I appreciate a lot that it allows Aira to stand firm on her decision; and while she isn't willing to acknowledge her friendship with Momo just yet, she did seem to draw some meassure of strength from her interaction with her, and Okarun, when she couldn't make herself enter the classroom before. I appreciate a complex relationship like that. Gosh, I'm so glad I'm not the only one that thinks Jiji is back to being annoying x'D I really liked his character in the first few episodes of this season, he was focused and so kind-hearted; but seeing him go back to the goofball is... a hard pill to swallow, made all the harder by the fact that we have seen him being vulnerable and sweet, but now we're seeing this cover again that feels so superficial and shallow compared to the depth we got for that one shinning moment. I hope we can see more of a balance with him in the future. Okay, I need to addressed it, but *what the heck is going on with the Kito woman?* Clearly, she isn't human, but what does that actually mean? I have no clue, but it feels so omnious and chilling. And she admitted to have being growing the worm for 200 years! So what did she plan to do with it? Because I don't think she thought that she was growing it to protect the town from the volcano. I'm low-key terrified of it all. Dandadan has steadily become such a great show. I liked season 1 a lot, but with each new episode I'm liking this season more and more.

I had another thought about Jiji and your discussion of him not taking things seriously. With Okarun when he was possessed by Turbo Granny he was somewhat conscious and could tell how out of control and dangerous Turbo Granny was but with Jiji he empathized with Evil Eye then got possessed and everything for him was a blank after that as far as we know. I think it's easier for Jiji not fully understanding the magnitude of how dangerous Evil Eye is to sort of disassociate from the situation. He can hear everyone talking about how dangerous Evil Eye is and be slightly worried and nervous about it but he himself is not going to feel the danger of the situation. He does see Okarun and Momo injured but I dont know if he knows how much of those injuries Evil Eye caused vs the fight with the worm. I think now that we're back to a peaceful environment I think when Evil Eye goes on a rampage the cause and effect will be alot clearer and it will sink in for Jiji alot more that this is a serious situation.
