Chihayafuru: Episode 19 FULL LENGTH Reaction!

Comments

I thought this episode was great, too! Taichi CANNOT catch a break! I feel so much for him! I do agree that it’s great he recognized there was a REASON behind the loss and hopefully he can move forward from it! But also, this poor boy - the mangaka is CRUEL to him, and he doesn’t even realize it! I loved seeing Tsutomu and Kana strategizing! Nishida has a track record of saying things without really thinking about them, but I’m glad it was resolved this episode. And the fact that Chihaya tries to course correct and be better and more considerate was really sweet! And OH MY GOSH - can they be a throuple? Can they be a threesome? Can they just love each other?! I’m not usually a poly supporter, but I will root for it with them! Thank you so much for the comment and kind words!

Ooohhh, thank you for clarifying that! That helps! That’s such good way to explain why it’s a smart - yet desperate - strategy! Yesss, I can see that sports anime trope in action, here; I love that they’re good enough friends to let it slide and know that it’s projection. I love that there’s actual communication and them working through it! Yay! And man…”LITTLE BROTHER-ZONED” oh noooo - I feel for him so much! Thank you for the comment and kind words!

This episode was so good! It gave me chills! I was on the edge of my seat for both matches. I swear, everything that was going through my head when Taichi loses is that he keeps getting all the L's xD Poor guy can't catch a break, ever. That being said, I really liked how Taichi didn't think it had been just luck that made him lose, but all the little mistakes he made through the match. It hurts, and it sucks, but it's a very good thing to know and be able to realize on your own, so you can improve upon it and be better next time. Tsutomu making his own strategy to win against Kana was so cool! I loved it so much. It was different, but it was also pretty clever, and while he didn't manage to win, he did make up for the big gap he had with Kana. As much as it sucked that Chihaya heard Nishida sort of diss her to Taichi - though I don't think he was trying to be mean or anything, because I believe that Nishida would say anything he felt strongly about to her face - I appreciate it that she IMMEDIATELY starts to, with effort, correct herself and accomodate for their feelings, it's very sweet; and it's the same trait that we've seen her use when learning from other players to improve her Karuta playing. No, I agree, poor Taichi is going to HATE HIMSELF for not seeing Chihaya tenderly resting his head on her shoulder so he can have a better rest, lol. Look, I've been a huge Chihaya/Taichi shipper since the beginning of this show, but after seeing the way Arata touched Taichi's name in that list... nope, I think the three of them need to end up together xD I'm advocating for this now.

About Tsutomu's strategy at the end, you don't get a penalty if you commit a fault on a card that's on your side. So basically he's just gonna hit all his cards as soon as the reader starts any poem. But this makes it almost impossible to try to take cards on the opponent's side. Basically he's betting that his 10 cards will be read before her 2. It is a risk, but a calculated one and a desperate one at the same time. Taichi's snide comment to Nishida was out of line, even if it was technically correct. But I love that it didn't lead to unnecessary conflict between them. This is another sports anime trope where 2 players on the same side are too stubborn to admit when they're wrong and have hurt the other. But here we get an immediate resolution by just having both characters talk to each other. Great, natural development for both too. Also, it feels like Taichi went from being friend-zoned by Chihaya to little brother-zoned by her now.
