NATSUME YUUJINCHOU Season 6: Episode 10-11 & Manga Volume 16 FULL LENGTH Reaction!

*DOUBLE DRAGON HEADPHONE WARNINGS*

Is this my favorite two-part season finale so far? UHM, I THINK SO! I just love the Natori episodes and this one gave me lots to fangirl over, intrigue, world-building with the exorcist world, heartfelt Natsume moments, AND a NEW MYSTERY!? This late in the game!? Well, yes!

Also, we dive into Volume 16 of the manga and there's lots of fun there to talk about, of course, before the season 6 finale!

NATSUME YUUJINCHOU Season 6: Episode 10-11 & Manga Volume 16 FULL LENGTH Reaction!

Comments

Thank you so much for the comment and kind words! Shigeru reliving his bachelor days and partying hard and then there’s Natsume, who is the most precious and innocent angel in that regard! He won't even sneak sake from Madara! XD This episode set is literally one of my favorites of the series so far! You’re so right about Natsume and how he understands that Beniko’s thoughts are not universally the thoughts of everyone that can’t see yokai - so true to point that out! Yesss, as much as Natori has a good heart and kind intentions, he’s embedded into the exorcist culture, so he is jaded/corrupted to an extent as well without possibly even realizing it - which is why it’s so important he has Natsume in his life to somewhat ground him! Hahaha but yes, I am right there with you, YOKAI RIGHTS! Oohh, thank you for letting me know about the missing tags! I just added them! Thank you so much! Yes, I’m so excited to get into the OVA’s! 😀

Hey Ivan! Thank you for the comment! I've asked in my reactions to not have any hints, clues, spoilers, confirmations of theories or fan theories that can get into spoiler territory since I still have quite a bit of the series left to go and I want to be surprised by the show and develop my own theories organically - the mods have flagged this to where I can't read it right now but thank you for taking the time to craft and for the comment and support - hopefully my discussions will touch on what you are talking about in future episodes! Thanks so much!

Loved the reaction and discussion! Another excellent volume review. Loved Shigeru talking about ‘partying hard’ and… it’s about precious bean Natsume. 😂 Love this episode set! Agree that Natsume’s growth is so great to watch. 🥰 When Beniko spoke about how she felt about not being able to see yokai, an earlier!Natsume would have absolutely spiralled! He would have assumed that that is how the likes of Tanuma/Taki/etc felt – or would feel in the future – and would pre-emptively start distancing himself. So proud of him in this moment, understanding that it is how Beniko feels and that is her own business and nothing to do with him or people she’s never met! And agreed regarding the ‘disregard and disrespect’ which came up in discussion – to me this also links to the talk of ‘forbidden’ techniques/items/etc in the manga review. All of this talk and framing in the manga/anime is from the point of view of exorcists who believe that yokai are pests/curses/unwanted/etc. I do not trust a word which comes out of any exorcist’s mouth (including Natori - so I'm right there with Madara 😂). Their worldview is fundamentally biased in terms of who they believe should be allowed to even exist on this version of Earth. I could rant about this for ages so TL;DR - Yokai Rights! 🤣 (Btw, the post is missing tags at the moment) Another stellar season! 🥰 Cannot wait for next week and getting into some OVAs! 💙

This has been on my mind for a while watching your reactions, so sorry it's so long! It's canon that Reiko had Natsume's mother out of wedlock, was a single mother, and died young (in the very first chapter of the manga, Natsume says "Not many people even REMEMBER her, since she died so young. Not even her own daughter..."). I find it a bit strange to just assume that Natsume's grandfather wasn't around because he died instead of them splitting up, one leaving the other, or never having been in an actual relationship in the first place. "Otoko" and "otoko no hito", terms that imply a male adult, are used by the dragon (otoko) and Natsume (otoko no hito) about the man the dragon met and by Reiko (otoko) about the nagging man who buys her manju and whom she thinks is from another town in Ch 59/S5E1; however, Reiko is a teenager wearing her school uniform in every flashback, including the one of her talking about the man. In the same episode/manga arc, Natsume cut off the relative he used to live with just as she was implying that Reiko "worsened" somehow around her daughter's birth ("I mean... your grandmother was rather odd. Even CRAZY. And when she had your mother...") I don't know, I'd rather believe the grandfather is Madara or another yokai taking a human form and Reiko not realizing, paralleling human-yokai romances being frequent occurances in the series and the betrayal and despair Natsume has felt earlier in life when a kind person turned out to be a yokai, rather than the potential implications of the grandfather actually being a human man who, even IF he was an exorcist, isn't recognized as part of the local community repeatedly initiating interactions with a socially and often physically isolated schoolgirl who we know died "so young" raising a young child he fathered alone. It wouldn't be off-tone for the series, though, as Natsume is explicitly a physical abuse survivor.
