It's the first episode of season 6, if you can believe it, and this season is already off to a fantastic start! Natsume gets transformed by a yokai he saves and it's up to Nyanko-sensei and his two besties Tanuma and Taki to help change him back! What a way to kick off the season!

Oh man, this was an amazing start to the season! Seeing tiny Natsume finally get love and kindness from an “older” presence (Pre-Fujiwara) was SOMETHING. Tanuma and Taki would be wonderful parents individually and Madara showing his “grumpy grandpa” side - my heart was MELTING in this episode! I love that Tanuma and Taki got a glimpse into Natsume’s insecurities that are much more noticeable in his “child state” than when he hides it in his teenage self. But YES, “healing one’s inner child is this!” And then with the growth behind it of 5 seasons? Love it. The combination of the vulnerable and scared child Natsume in the world of the more self-assured teenage Natsume - BUT knowing that deep down, he is still that scared child, just with a better environment to help him move forward - it just all comes together so well! This episode was so gorgeous - and such a powerful start to the season! Thank you so much for the comment!

What an amazing start to the season 🥰 – didn’t make it 10min into the ep without the tears starting. 😆 Absolutely agree with everything in the discussion around how well structured and presented the show is, this episode was definitely a showcase for this. The emotional growth is so well layered and not only for Natsume. The way Madara was his grumpy self but that bit more careful when speaking to baby!Natsume (and freaking out). Tanuma and Taki knew exactly what they needed to address with baby!Natsume straight away and they were such sweethearts! 🥰 I also feel so sad for this strange instance of a baby!Natsume who appears and I don’t think gets to retain any of these memories. But also – how little baby!Natsume really needed to see and hear to trust. It wasn’t a case of them all having to break down endless walls to stop him from trying to run away, baby!Natsume was a sheet of rice paper away from wanting to believe this reality. 😭 If I ever need to show someone an example of what ‘healing ones inner child’ looks like - it would be literally this episode! It works entirely by itself! … And then works THAT much better with 5 seasons of emotional growth behind it. Having this reminder was so important, as well. We’ve had multiple seasons now where mostly we see current!Natsume who is more self-assured and more aware of the support he has; we had a few episodes where we saw mostly short flashbacks to how things used to be while in the firm knowledge that that is not how they are now. It can create this impression that Natsume is 'fine now'. But that's not how that works. So getting this episode reminds us that these Natsumes are one and the same. That frightened child never went anywhere. And he works hard every day to heal. Cannot stop gushing about this episode! 😆 Looking forward to next week! 💙
