She's just trying to squeeze some sense of normalcy from her child celebrity life and make some friends, and her mom's asking her to spend all this time on a long expedition full of adult strangers. Also, apparently Sapporo, the largest city in Hokkaido, gets an average of over 15 feet of snow per year. I'm from the upper Midwest so I'm familiar with cold and snow, but that sounds ROUGH.
